On packaging with bubbles or ampoules, there is no precise indication of how to store coconut oil. The shelf life of the product depends on the temperature, humidity and illumination of the room. Fat of coconut shaving in Asian countries is actively used in cooking, and we often use it in cosmetology. From it you can make home face masks and hair balms. Since coconut palms do not grow in Europe, the price of the product is quite high. It is brought from India and other Asian countries.
How to prepare
In Asian countries, where coconuts are a mere penny, small family factories and large-scale production are engaged in the production of butter. Many people mistakenly confuse it with the transparent liquid inside the nut. Others think that it is a liquid squeezed out of the chips of pulp. However, this is nothing more than milk, from which oil is extracted.
Oil can be made in two ways:
- boiling;
- cold pressing.
In small factories where there is no special equipment, milk is boiled. As a result, the liquid turns into a thick brown mass with a transparent golden liquid. It is liquid and is a valuable oil that you can get at home.
However, a more useful product is extracted by cold pressing, because it can not be heat treated and preserves all trace elements and vitamins. When buying medicinal or cosmetic oil, pay attention to the packaging. It should be indicated there that the product is made by cold pressing. It is stored longer and has more useful components.
Recommendations for storage
On the packaging of a professional skin care product or hair, there are recommendations for storage. If for some reason they are not indicated, it is important to find out on your own how to store the coconut oil correctly. A 100% ecological product without impurities and flavors can be stored for two years. Coconut oil is not capricious in storage, does not oxidize and does not become bitter.
Tip
Tighten the lid of the jar or bottle tightly so that air does not get inside.
For storage, choose a bottle of glass with a stopper. It maximally protects the product from ingress of oxygen. The tightening caps of cans and bottles let in air, which leads to the oxidation of coconut fat.
Coconut oil freezes at a temperature below 24 degrees. If you opened the jar and found that the product thickened, and the transparent golden color changed to milky-white, do not worry. Useful components do not escape from this.
Temperature and humidity of air
Coconut fat can be stored in both solid and liquid state. This does not affect its quality. The consistency of the product depends solely on the temperature conditions. Up to 24 degrees it remains thick, and after 25 starts a slow melting process. Optimal storage temperature is from 4 to 20 degrees. The storage can become a kitchen cabinet, a shelf in the pantry or a refrigerator.
If oil is stored in the refrigerator, it must be melt before use. It is advisable to do this in a water bath or by placing a cold bubble on a warm battery. Only in liquid form, the fat is absorbed into the skin or hair. The humidity in the room should not exceed 60 percent.
The container in which the product is stored must be darkened. Direct sunlight leads to an inevitable deterioration in quality. Jars should not be stored on a dressing table or shelf, hide them on the door of the refrigerator or inside the cabinet. Do not worry about the contents of the capsules, it is protected by a dense shell.
Packing
Many people buy coconut oil for bottling. This method of sale is practiced in Asian countries, where the product is sold in every shop. After purchase, it must necessarily be poured into a suitable container for storage.
- The container should be made of dark glass( plastic jars are not suitable).
- The cover must be tightly closed( ideally, instead of the cap on the thread there must be a stopper).
- Make sure that the bubble into which you are pouring oil is clean and dry.
These rules are advisable to observe for the storage of an environmentally friendly product obtained by cold pressing. Track the composition on the package. If the product contains preservatives, the expiration date will not be extended by transfusion into another packaging.
Capsules and ampoules
When buying coconut fat in capsules or ampoules, you risk buying a counterfeit or a poor-quality product. To be sure of the quality, crack one capsule. Leaked liquid should be transparent and have a golden hue. If the color is bright yellow, then the product is not suitable for further use.
Do not throw away cardboard packaging, it protects the contents from sunlight. Do not store the ampoule in the refrigerator. This can be done only at the end of the expiration date( for three months).Bags with capsules can be stored in the medicine cabinet or in a dark place( in cabinets). After opening the ampoule should be used, it is allowed to store no more than 12 hours.
Home product storage
Homemade cooking oil is quite simple. From one medium sized coconut you will get approximately 30 ml of the finished product. The flesh of the nut needs to be grated on a fine grater and squeezed through the cheesecloth. White liquid is coconut milk, which is sometimes confused with water inside the nut. Milk is boiled on low heat until it begins to darken. The mass is divided into lumps and a transparent brownish liquid. After cooling, the contents of the saucepan are squeezed through the gauze cloth to produce oil.
Squeeze the oily liquid over the darkened glass bottles. It is desirable that they are plugged with stoppers that do not let in air. Use of plastic containers is strictly prohibited. Homemade oil should be used within 2 weeks after cooking.
Food storage
The food product must be stored in the refrigerator. The food is used exclusively with hot pressed oil( it can be prepared by yourself and according to the recipe described above).
Despite the long terms and unpretentious storage conditions, do not stock up with a huge number of bubbles overnight. The more fresh the product, the more useful it is.
