So do we need decorative boxes? Of course, much can be kept and simply in cardboard packages or packages somewhere deep in the pantry or in the depths of the garage. But here for the storage of books, linen and the like things will require something more cute and tidy. Interestingly decorated boxes will not only help keep things in order, but will also be an attractive detail of the interior. And even those who are not very fond of and skill in handicrafting, it will be easy to make such boxes, what can we say about real masters.

Adhesive box with your own hands

The easiest way to make a storage container with your own hands is to glue something with an already existing cardboard box. It can be a variety of materials.

  • Remaining wallpaper after repair. The box thus decorated will not be noticeable, which means that visually it will not eat up space even in a small room.
  • Self-adhesive decorative film. This material is very convenient to use and has a large selection of colors and textures, which makes it very popular. A big plus of such a film is that it can be wiped with a damp cloth during cleaning, the decorative coating will not suffer from this, and the film itself will not peel off.
  • Colored paper or cardboard. They will help realize any fantasies and with their own hands turn a simple and inexpressive box into a bright and original piece of furniture.

If you do not want to bother with glue, you can use two-sided tape on a fabric or paper basis to glue paper or light fabric.

Box of old magazines

An interesting and original material for decorating the decorative box - unnecessary magazines, more precisely, their individual sheets, folded into tubes. Depending on the required color scheme, you can use black and white or, conversely, very bright pages.

To make the tubes of the same size, they are better at something to wind - for example, on Chinese chopsticks or cocktail straws. There is no need to glue the journal sheet along its entire length, just do it on the last few centimeters. It is more convenient to use office glue in a pencil. He keeps a thick fabric badly, but it fits perfectly for paper.

Next, you need to prepare the box-base - if the paper tubes are placed vertically, then it must be glued on a strip of double-sided adhesive tape below and above, and if horizontally - then, respectively, at the edges of each of the side surfaces. Then the pre-wrapped tubes are carefully glued to the box.

It will be interesting to look boxes for storage, decorated with their own hands different cords. Instead of them, yarn for knitting, floss yarn and any similar items suitable for color can be used. Of course, fastened to the glue or tape, the thread will hold firmer, but even if it is simply tightly wound, attaching only the tips, then nothing terrible will happen.

Advice

In baskets for storage of dirty things, it is necessary to provide ventilation holes, otherwise the laundry will smell unpleasant even after several days of lying in such a box.

Box for home textiles

For storage of towels, bed linen and similar things, you can sew a box of cloth with your own hands. In order to keep its walls well in shape, any dense objects, even the usual cardboard, are stitched there. But the ideal option will be plastic canvas, which can be found in any store for needlework. Due to the holes, it will let in air, and thanks to the material it will not suffer from accidental wetting, it can even be washed, if necessary. Such plastic is easily cut with ordinary scissors, usually produced in the form of rectangles or circles. Accordingly, the canvas can be applied to a box of absolutely any shape.

Along the edges of the box, so that they are not worn out from constant use, the edging is made of dark, dense material.

Tighten the box with a cloth

For gluing it is important to choose a sufficiently dense and rigid box, because thin walls can not withstand even fabric and decorative elements, not to mention the contents of heavy things like books.

Since the fabric can not be removed from the box for washing or ironing, it is better to choose strong non-marble materials with at least a small amount of synthetics so that they do not crumple. Before you glue the fabric, it must be washed and ironed. If it is a thin material, so that it is denser and better kept the shape, it can be starched or coveted. A thin fabric can be perfectly attached to a double-sided adhesive tape, but it is better to put a more dense and heavy adhesive on the glue.

Cutting the fabric with your own hands, you must leave allowances at least 2-3 cm on each side.

Useful recommendations

If in the manufacture of the box you did not use quick-drying glue, but similar PVA compounds, then they need to allow time to dry and only then load the box. This will take at least a day.

For storage of various small things like jewelry, boxes can be broken into cells. To do this, you need long strips of cardboard. In each of a certain distance, corresponding to the size of the cell, an incision is made in half the width of the strip, then all the strips are inserted into the resulting grooves. This grate from the partitions does not even need to be specially fixed to the walls, it will hold itself tightly enough.
