An ordinary kitchen apron can be bought at any hardware store. But you can make a rather unusual apron yourself. To do this, you only need a broken multi-colored umbrella.
What you need
To create such an unusual apron, we need:
- broken umbrella or material from it;
- scissors;
- thick paper for a pattern (the remnants of wallpaper or sheets of drawing paper are suitable for this);
- measuring tape (centimeter);
- a pencil or felt-tip pen in order to draw a pattern on paper;
- an erasable sewing marker for transferring the pattern to the fabric (if it is not available, you can use a thin soap residue);
- stationery pins for fixing the pattern on the fabric;
- spool of thread in the color of the umbrella;
- braid or ribbon for the belt and ties around the neck;
- needle and thimble for hand sewing.
You can use a sewing machine, it will speed up the work.
Instruction
We proceed in the following sequence:
- We remove the fabric from the umbrella frame (carefully freeing the knitting needles so as not to tear the material), then wash it and dry it.
- Carefully iron the removed fabric with an iron. Creases and wrinkling on the fabric will disappear. Constantly monitor the temperature of the iron so that wrinkles do not form on the material from overheating.
- Then we prepare a paper pattern. First, draw a straight vertical line on a sheet of paper along the ruler or fold the sheet in half, measure a segment equal to the length of the apron and put large serifs at the ends of the segment. Orient yourself with the size of the future apron according to your height (for this you can use an old apron). Draw a horizontal line of the chest along the top point, mark the line of the belt. Connect with smooth lines the side and bottom of the pattern in the desired shape. For symmetry, fold the paper along the vertical line and. cutting out the pattern with scissors, unfold the fold.
- Spread the fabric on the table, gently straighten it, apply the pattern and secure it with stationery needles, circle it with a marker or a bar of soap. When laying out, please note that there is a hole left on the fabric from the metal rod of the umbrella. Try to position the pattern so that the defect is where it can be decorated (for example, sew on an original pocket).
- Now cut the apron along the outlined outline, leaving seam allowances of about 1.5 centimeters.
- Finish the edges of the product. To do this, fold the fabric along the drawn line of the pattern, mark the edge so that the processing looks perfect. Sew the edge with a machine or carefully hem it by hand, then press the seam with an iron. If desired, the edge of the matter can not be folded, but processed with an inlay, colored edging or braid - as you like.
- From a thick ribbon or wide braid, make a belt long enough to tie loosely at the back, sew it along the waistline. Sew neck ties from a narrow ribbon or ribbon to the top of the chest.
- If desired, decorate the apron with applique or decorative elements made from the remnants of the fabric. Do not get too carried away with the decor, it can interfere while cooking, because this is a kind of “workwear”, which should be comfortable and practical.
If you put the maximum effort, then with little time you will create an exclusive accessory for the kitchen. The water-repellent fabric of such an apron is easily washed from the most persistent dirt.
