Senator proposed to freeze electricity and gas tariffs due to pandemic

Due to falling incomes of Russians, tariffs for gas and electricity may be frozen. Sergei Leonov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, came to the State Duma with such an initiative.

“In a difficult economic situation due to the coronavirus pandemic, when many citizens have decreased revenues, I consider it reasonable to freeze tariffs for electricity and gas this year, " senator.

The senator is sure that any increase in utility bills this year is categorically unacceptable. Leonov stressed that gas and electricity suppliers are large companies, monopolists, which report good profits and dividends every year. They can "share with the population", the senator is sure.

People, according to Sergei Leonov, are forced to save on communal apartments and buy their own food. Meanwhile, tariffs for electricity and gas may be frozen by the Government. In addition, it is possible that financial support may be required by the regional resource supplying companies themselves.
