Before you can clean amber at home, you need to know what it can do. Since this semiprecious stone is quite capricious, it can not be used for its processing:

• ultrasound;
• steam generator;
• aggressive alkali and acids - even ordinary soap is not suitable;
• alcohols and solvents;
• special chemicals designed for cleaning other precious products, especially metals;
• abrasive powders, brushes, loofers, graters.

Important! The use of these substances and tools can not only promote the appearance of scratches or cracks, but completely destroy the stone. Therefore, if you are afraid to clean amber at home with your own hands, better take it to a professional jeweler.

If you decide on such a procedure, consider the following rules:

1. Periodically rinse amber with warm clean water, lightly wiping with a soft flannel.
2. If strong contaminants are found on the surface, dissolve ammonia with water - a few drops per glass, lower the stone into this liquid for a few minutes. Remove and wipe dry with a soft rag.

Amber should not only be properly cleaned, but also stored in a suitable way. For this, observe the following rules:

1. Choose a storage location away from direct sunlight, cold sources, heaters, radiators.
2. Do not put amber with other jewelry, cosmetics or household chemicals.
3. Protect the jewelry from direct mechanical stress. Do not let amber fall.
