Years of searching for the world's best apartment
The girl spent about two years looking for housing. She always knew that she would live in the best place on earth - in the area of the Patriarch's Ponds. It was here that she rested her soul after a difficult week of work. Even on rainy days, she just came here to forget about everything.
Sofiko Apartments are located in a historic building on Maly Kozikhinsky Lane. The building was built before the revolution. One of the apartments housed a literary club, which included Tolstoy, Ilf, Kataev and other Russian writers.
The area of the apartment was relatively small, only 75 m2, but it had a great plus - high ceilings of 3.6 m. In addition, six huge windows opened up an incredible view of the Patriarch's Ponds.
Elegant design with elements of high life
To decorate the interior, Sofiko invited an old friend Georgy Chaushba. According to the decorator, the linear layout of the apartment did not allow to realize all the ideas and wishes of the hostess. He proposed to dismantle all interior partitions and redistribute the premises according to their functional purpose.
In the apartment, one room was very small; earlier a servant lived in it. The designer decided to make it a spacious combined bathroom. And also in the apartments they traditionally decorated living room with kitchen, bedroom and dressing room.
The designer restored plaster stucco on the ceiling and brickwork in the spacious dressing room and hall. The only old cast-iron battery that has survived since those times has become a real art object. In her likeness, several more radiators were poured into all the other rooms. And also the brass ventilation grilles were restored and painted in a pleasant graphite shade.
Instead of old cracked windows and doors, modern solid wood structures were installed. They fit perfectly into the interior, decorated with retro style elements. Sofiko Shevardnadze often travels the world and tries to bring something unusual from each trip. All designer crafts have become stylish accents in the renovated apartment.
Interesting techniques in the design of the living room
The wide doorway between the living room and the kitchen was decorated with a solid white portal. The zoning is an elegant couch upholstered in genuine leather, decorated with a coach tie.
Oak wood was laid on the floor parquet board, covered with a protective varnish that has preserved the beautiful wood pattern. Refurbished ceiling stucco painted with snow-white paint.
Against the background of light gray walls, a sofa with burgundy velvet upholstery effectively stands out. A picture was hung over it, painted by the famous Georgian artist Irakli Sutidze. Several more paintings by the master decorated the rest of the rooms in the apartment. An old piano "Yenisei", left over from the previous owners, was placed near the TV.
Functional interior of a small kitchen
The designer has competently thought out the whole kitchen environment. On one side, they put lockers of different heights and built-in refrigerator. A work area with a sink was placed near the window. A bright crimson plate in retro style was installed in the center. She was successfully matched domed hood.
Unusual design ideas
Sofiko lived in Paris for a long time and was imbued with the spirit of France. The designer decided to embody several unusual ideas typical for this country in the interior. For example, local residents are sensitive to space saving and emphasize practicality and functionality.
George decided that it would be appropriate to make several secret places in the historic house. The apartment originally had a back entrance, which had not been used for its intended purpose for a long time. The designer made a pantry in a small space and put wide doors, inside which he equipped several lockers.
Bright accents in the bedroom
The bedroom was set up in a small room. The main place is occupied by a double bed with a high soft back with ears. The wall behind the headboard was decorated with stained glass decor, and a full-fledged dressing room was made behind it.
A small round table with a silvered surface was placed on one side of the bed. A designer lamp in the form of an Eiffel Tower with a white matte shade was placed on its tabletop. An elegant console table was installed near the windowsill, the legs of which are decorated with openwork carvings.
Snow-white bathroom
The bathroom is successfully combined with hog tiles with a glossy surface and painting the upper part of the walls in light gray. A large bowl with a rain shower was placed near the window. A wide console was erected nearby, on the tabletop of which they installed ceramic washbasin. A mirror was hung above it, illuminated on both sides of a sconce with matte shades.

Thanks to the professional work of the designer, it was possible to preserve and emphasize the belonging to the historical era in the apartment and create an incredible atmosphere of France. Georgy Chaushba thought over every centimeter of space. Despite the small area, all rooms do not look cluttered. The decorator did not use stereotypes and standard techniques, but developed his own unique style, which is very suitable for the character of Sofiko Shevardnadze.
