Environmentalists have begun to fight plastic. Transparent bags, soft bottles, disposable tableware are gradually becoming a thing of the past. This means that the number of glass containers will increase. And for a long time, colorful labels have been pasted on glass bottles and jars, telling about the contents of this container. And when the contents are used up, glass containers are often reused in the household. In this case, old labels get in the way. It is advisable to remove them. And they are glued thoroughly. Removing and easily removing stickers from glassware and traces of glue requires a solid body of knowledge and skills.
Ways to remove stickers
People have come up with many different ways to remove stickers, but they can all be collected in three groups. In the first group, the most primitive techniques are reduced simply to tearing off the sticker. It's good if the corner was poorly glued, and the glue is not the best. Then you need to contrive to grip this corner with your fingertips and pull the sticker. Almost certainly it will not completely detach from the glass, the piece will come off. Then you will need to take a knife and scrape off the remains. The procedure is long, nasty and ineffective. If the corner did not stick out, then you will have to scrape from the very beginning.
The second group of methods assumes that before the start of ripping off, the achievements of science and technology will be involved. The scientific component of this dumb process is that it tries to dissolve the adhesive that holds the sticker. Hot water is poured into a saucepan, a couple of tablespoons of washing powder are poured into it, a jar with a sticker is immersed in this poisonous solution, and everything is left in the silence of the kitchen for several hours. After these hours, the jar with the sticker is removed from the water and the sticker soaked to a mushy state is wiped off with a hard washcloth or sponge.
Another technique from this group differs from the first in that it is not the jar that is placed in water, but hot water is poured into the jar. The glue does not withstand this heat, softens, loses its adhesive properties, and the sticker is easily wiped off with a washcloth.
Another trick from the same group is an attempt to dissolve the glue using sunflower oil. The label is abundantly greased with sunflower oil and kept in this state for ten to fifteen minutes. You can use other liquid oil as well. When it is well absorbed into the sticker and softens the glue, you can wipe it with a hard sponge. And just wash off the remains with warm water.
There are ways to remove stickers using modern automated techniques. The container with the sticker is carefully and solemnly placed in the latest dishwasher. The strongest dishwashing detergent is also poured there. The machine turns on, performs the prescribed program, stops, and the can is removed from there without a sticker. And if traces of glue remain on the jar, then they can be easily washed with a washcloth. But before that, the loofah should be well soaked in soda gruel.
You don't have to use a powerful technique. You can take a simpler device. For example, a regular hair dryer. The hair dryer turns on, hot air is directed to the label, the glue softens from the heat, and the label now needs to be tucked up and peeled off. The remaining traces of glue on the can are again washed off by hand using a strong solvent.
As directed hot air, you can try to use a jet of steam from the spout of a boiling kettle.
If there is a desire and opportunity, the glue is sometimes removed chemically. Alcohol, acetone, even vinegar are suitable as a solvent. You can try gasoline or kerosene. The label is well moistened, scraped off, and traces of glue are wiped off with a hard sponge. They also use window cleaners and nail polish removers. There is a large selection of very strong solvents on the market for this task. The main thing is that then the dishes must be thoroughly washed so as not to be poisoned by the remnants of this chemistry.
Conclusion
In everyday life, there are problems that are not very complicated in appearance, but still require a solution. These include the need to remove labels. But people who have been taught to solve global problems also successfully cope with this.
