During a crisis, people try to save on literally everything, including utility bills. Accounts sometimes reach sky-high figures, and you involuntarily think about replacing everything that is possible with energy saving options. And the choice is quite large. Ordinary incandescent bulbs remained only from collectors. And instead of them - whatever you want: luminescent, LED, filament. And everyone is praised in different ways. But let's be honest, just in practice, let's figure it out, for example, with filaments: are they worth the price they ask for?

Where do "legs grow" from filament lamps, and how do they work?

The inventors of this type of lighting devices are the Japanese. They came up with them in 2008, and by 2013 they had already launched mass production and an advertising campaign.

The difference between filament lamps and other modern lamps is the presence of a rod - a filament LED. It is a glass rod of different lengths with LED crystals fixed in it.

Each stick will pull 1 watt. The more of these sticks, the more powerful the lamp. Crystals fixed on the bulb are covered with a yellow phosphor, which determines the glow temperature of the lamp and makes it "warm".

Outwardly and by the nature of the glow, such devices are as close as possible to traditional incandescent lamps, and they consume much less energy. All lamps are equipped with drivers for normal power supply. They are the weak point of these lamps, which fails primarily due to overheating.

Chinese craftsmen instantly picked up this new type of lamp from the Japanese and started mass production, not at all taking care of the quality of the drivers, so that Chinese filament lamps are very consumable goods that serve no more than a couple months

A driver breakdown is indicated by flickering, which greatly irritates the eyes. So, the only advice if you want to get such a lamp is to look at the manufacturer and buy lamps with a power of 25 to 250 volts, they usually install high-quality drivers that can cope with overheating.

Why buy a filament lamp

The question arises - why such "troubles"? After all, in fact, filaments are more expensive than other bulbs, and it seems that they can fail very quickly? The most important reason for such a purchase is the requirement of the interior.

And also - such lamps are perhaps the only ones that look good in expensive crystal chandeliers, which in many families are simply inherited as a heirloom. After all, crystal, in principle, is not intended for an economical light source.

Well, such lamps serve, if they are not from China, for a very long time, this is a fact.

So why, after all, many consumers who bought these lamps, after experience using them, abandon this idea?

Please note that these lamps are in no way suitable for illuminating a workspace. All objects in this light turn dull yellow, and your eyes simply cannot withstand such a load. It feels like you are working by candlelight. So they will not take root either in the kitchen or on the desktop. They are only suitable as background and decorative lighting.

Lamps have a rather high cost, from 150 rubles, and at the same time they are absolutely non-repairable. And the glass bulb, which is present in this design, is rather fragile, so breaking the lamp can be as easy as Ilyich's bulb. And what has already been said - massive Chinese-made fakes flash and burn out, as if they were incandescent lamps.

What conclusion can be drawn? If your special interior does not require it, do not pursue fashion. It is much safer and cheaper to buy an ordinary LED lamp and not expect a dirty trick from it.

And here is another opinion about these devices:
