Lovers of home-made wine and other homemade drinks often use 20-liter glass containers to produce their masterpieces. Given the peculiarities of the composition of such products and the specific design, many winemakers face the question of how to wash a bottle of wine with a narrow neck to subsequently use it for the same purpose.

There are a lot of options for impact, but regardless of the approach, one always needs to remember one important rule: the earlier to start processing the capacity, the less hassle will be spent to achieve the desired result. If you leave the dirty bottle for a few months, then it will be very problematic to wash it off the sediment and unpleasant odor.

Important points of the process

Cleaning the wine container will go faster and will not cause any particular trouble if you follow the following rules:

  • Initially, the product must be soaked in warm water. If there is such an opportunity, it is better not just to fill the bottle, namely to place it in warm water, then the precipitate will quickly fall behind.
  • After each cleaning option( if it did not give an ideal result), the item should be dried before repeating the approach or trying something new. Alternating chemical effects with clean water and dry air will destroy even the most resistant sediment.
  • Trying to remove the coating located inside the bottle, one can not neglect the law of universal gravitation. If you turn the bottle over so that the problem area is on top, it will gradually fall under its own weight. True, given the size of the subject, it is not so easy to do.

Tip: Glass is not plastic, it practically does not hold fragrances. Often the cause of the unpleasant smell, which seems to come from the tank, is an old or spoiled lid. Do not try to wash it or disinfect it, it's better to just replace it.

  • Despite the fact that the glass in the bottles for wine is used very thick, it is not so difficult to break it. In the process of cleaning, do not use large sand, pebbles, small pebbles. They do effectively break a solid sediment, but can leave scratches on the inside of the product, which in the future will lead to a reduction in the strength of the material.

If the bottle has not been cleaned for so long that its internal surfaces are covered with mold, then it will not be possible to do alone with cleaning agents. It is necessary to connect disinfectants or professional methods of sterilization.

Simple but effective methods of

In cases where the contamination is very fresh or not excessively dense, a container with a narrow neck can be cleaned in one of the following ways:

  • Ershik. It is clear that this can only be a special device with a very long handle and fluffy dense pile. It passes through the throat of the product without problems and allows even the most persistent soils to be wiped off.
  • Jet head. If a watering hose is available, adjusting the intensity of the water supply can again clean the inside of the bottle qualitatively.
  • Detergents. Fresh dirt can be cleaned easily with the most common dishwashing detergent. The main thing is not just to pour the product into a container, but also to shake it thoroughly so that the impact affects all dirty areas.

  • Soda. If you simply fill the soda in a bottle of water, this will not give practically no result. The composition slightly softens the precipitate, but does not completely eliminate it. This approach must be combined with mechanical action, for example, by working with a brush or sponge on the holder.
  • Vinegar. This product not only dissolves sediment, deposit or scum, facilitating their departure, but also disinfects the container. However, resort to this approach is necessary only in the event that time does not press and the product after cleaning can be ventilated for a long time in the fresh air, otherwise the traces of a sharp odor will remain for some time.
  • Fine sand. First we fall asleep a small, calcined sand on a baking sheet, then we pour water. If you actively shake the container, it will be perfectly cleansed. The main thing is to make sure after that that all the sand was washed.

Some owners try to clean the bottle with buckwheat, but in practice this method is not as good as it seems. The food component under the influence of moisture softens, as a result of which its particles exfoliate and adhere to the glass. They can be almost invisible until they start to rot and spoil the taste and aroma of the drink, which is stored in the container.

Unusual approaches and their features

In addition to these approaches, there are a couple of methods that can remove dirt from even a container that has remained uncleaned for several months.

  • Newspapers. Finely rip the newsprint and push it through the neck of the bottle. It should be filled about a quarter. Then pour in a container three liters of clean water and wait for the paper to swell. After that, we begin to make intensive shaking movements in all directions to clear all the sections of the glass.

  • Fabric. A similar method, but first fill the bottle with clean water, diluted with a liter of river or swamp liquid. Leave the container for a few days until it "blooms."Then we put through the hole an unnecessary thin fabric. When it gets wet, we start draining the liquid, while spreading the material( some kind of stick) so that it sticks to the walls of the container. After that, slowly pull the cut, wiping the bottle from the inside. Several times rinse the container.

Before proceeding with the use of a clean bottle, it is recommended that it be dried and clogged. After 3-5 days( if possible, it is better to wait a couple of weeks) open the container and check whether it does not emit an unpleasant smell, whether any traces of dirt on the walls from the inside. If at least something causes suspicion, we repeat the purge from the very beginning, after which we again carry out a check.
