One of the key elements of the washing machine is a heater or a tubular electric heater, which is responsible for heating the water and maintaining the required temperature during washing. In order for the machine to last a long time, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the heater, but before you check the TEN in the washing machine at home, you need to understand how it works and where to look for it in the unit.
to the contents ↑Detecting a failure
If the water is not heated, the machine can continue to work as before, and it is not often possible to detect a breakdown at the first stages. Therefore, to begin with, we will understand the characteristics by which it is possible to judge the breakdown of the part, and accordingly - the need to check the washing machine's TEN for suitability. They are few:
Tags:
- Unpleasant smell of laundry after washing;
- When washing, the sunroof remains cold;
- The laundry does not wash.
Important! If you notice one of the signs, it is likely that the heater stopped heating water. The reasons for the failure in this case may vary.
Causes:
- Part breakage or short circuit. In this case, the washer will either stop working or continue, but not for long, since other parts of the machine can easily be damaged or burned.
- Heater circuit breakdown. With this problem the device can continue to behave as usual, and then it will be difficult to diagnose it at once. But if the machine erases longer than usual or hangs during washing, it is possible that the problem is in the chain break.
- Breakdown of the pressure switch. Pressostat is equipped with a sensor that is responsible for the level of water being recruited. During normal operation of the device, water is dialed up to a certain level, and after - the signal for switching on the heating comes to the electronics. It happens that the parts responsible for the water level are polluted as they are used, and the mud that has settled on them does not pass the heating signal. If you suspect that the machine does not heat precisely for this reason - clean the pressure switch, and check the operation of the device.
Important! Often, users do not pay attention to the fact that the machine did not finish the washing in time or did not execute part of the program, and sin on electronics failure. But if the technician refuses to perform any functions, it is likely that this is not a malfunction, but a signal for help.
Next, consider the work of the heating details and find out how to check the TEN on the washing machine at home.
to the contents ↑How does the heater work?
This type of heater consists of a metal tube, inside of which is a spiral, heated by the electric current. Also inside the pipe is a material that transfers heat from the spiral to the walls of the tube.
With frequent use, the spiral inside the heating element wears out, and it heats up all the worse.
Important! If you do not follow the instrument, then the spiral can completely burn out. In this case, the washing machine stops heating water.
If you have a suspicion of the operation of the heater or the washing machine does not heat the water - you should check it.
to the contents ↑Where to find heating elements?
There are two options where there can be heating elements in washing machines - front and rear. You can find it using the following methods:
- Inspection of the machine. Move the stiralk from the wall. If the wall behind is large enough, then most likely, the heater will be just below it.
- Lift the machine and look under it from the bottom up. So you can see the exact location of the heater.
- Remove the protective cover located behind the machine. So you'll see if the heater is behind.
- After removing the cover, look at the bottom of the drum - there you will find the heater.
- If the heater is in front, proceed the same way, but remove the front wall.
When you find the heater, you need to check it for integrity. This can be done by removing the heater completely, or by unfastening the fasteners and removing the wires.
Important! In order not to remember how the wires were connected - simply take a picture of the connected device from different angles.
If you decide to remove the heater completely - unscrew the central nut and push the bolt in such a way that it goes inside. Next, the element is gently paired with a flat tool, such as a knife or screwdriver, but so that neither the element nor the tank is damaged. Consider how to check the TEN in the washing machine at home.

Before checking, you should understand what data can be considered the norm and how they are indicated. The test is to use a multimeter or a tester.
Important! The rate varies from 20 to 40 ohms, depending on the power of your washing machine. There are especially powerful models in which the resistance can be up to 60 OM, but if the meter shows a value less than 20, then the heater is exactly faulty.
To check the heater, you need to know its resistance or ring it.
Data:
- U is the voltage designation. If there are no additional conditions, the usual socket outputs a voltage of 220 V.
- P - means the power of the heater. For different models of washing machines, the power will vary, so check the instructions or stickers on the device - there you can find information about the power.
Important! The normal resistance of the heater can be calculated using the formula:
R = U * U / P
The measured data are measured in units of Ohm, and they should be shown by the measuring device during normal operation of the device.
Let's analyze the calculation by an example.
Example
For example, the machine has a power of 2100 W, respectively - the formula will look like this:
220 * 220( U): 2100 = 23.05 Ohm.
Important! The data obtained indicate the resistance rate of the heater. Next, you need to check whether the value corresponds to the norm.
Calling TAN
In order to ring the device, you need a special device - a multimeter, and then you should take a number of actions:
- Disconnect the heater from the network.
- Remove all wiring leading to the heater.
- Take the measuring instrument, set in it the mode at which the resistance in the OM will be indicated at a value of 200.
- Connect the device to the TEN terminals.
Important! Further, with the parameters specified in the example, the device should show a value of 23.5 ohms or close to it. Then the heater can be considered serviceable.
Faults:
- If the instrument shows the number 1, it means that the coil of the heater is cut off and needs a replacement.
- When the display shows 0 or close to zero, a short circuit has occurred inside the heater.
Important! If the TEN values are within the allowed limits, the next step should be started.
Test for breakdown
It happens that the coil in the heater works without failures, but there is a malfunction in the conductive material that is located between the spiral and the pipe walls. In this case, the incoming current can pass through the heater and fall on other parts of the washing machine and its housing.
Important! This is completely insecure, because a breakdown can lead to an electric shock, and in case of strong breakdowns, sparks may appear from under the device, and even an ignition may occur.
In order to check the heater for a breakdown:
- It is necessary to set the continuity mode on the multimeter.
- In this mode, the meter wires are closed to each other - until an audible signal appears and the indicator lights up.
- After - one end of the device is touched to the TEN terminal, and the second - either the ground terminal or the device casing.
Important! In the presence of a squeaking sound - the heater should be replaced, since there are breakdowns in it. So you can check the heater of the washing machine or any other device having a similar heater.
Let's consider further how to check the heater without using additional devices.
to the contents ↑Test without measurements
In addition to measurements, it is possible to check the heater by other methods:
- If there are black dots on the body, the device has breakdowns and it needs to be replaced. To determine the presence or absence of points, it will be necessary to remove the scale from the heater. This can be done by soaking it in a strong solution of citric acid.
- If there are no apparent reasons for parsing the machine, you can pay attention to the electricity meter. Turn the machine into the mode when it will use all its power, see how the meter readings change. If the speed of its calculation has increased - the heater is in working order.
- Before the test, carefully inspect the device: if there is any noticeable swelling, scratches, cracks or other damage - the heater should be changed.
- There is an option in which you can check the part for the presence of breaks without using a tester. To do this, you need an electrician control lamp. You can make it yourself or buy in specialized stores.
Important! When installing TEN back, you need to act carefully, and carefully make sure that it gets into its mountings. If the heater is installed incorrectly, it may be higher than the required level, and when the machine is running it will touch the tank. This will lead to breakage not only of the heater, but also of the drum. Do not forget about the correct connection - all the wires must be in their places.
If you carry out preventive measures in time and periodically check the details of the washing machine for efficiency, it will last you much longer. And to check one of the most important elements - the TEN in the washing machine, you can now at any convenient time at home.
