If you have a private home ownership, then the question is very relevant. Indeed, paving the courtyard here is an obvious necessity, and many people prefer paving slabs as a material. It is not so difficult to lay it, and the owners of country houses prefer to do it on their own so as not to spend money on hired workers. And here's the bad luck: the tile, which, according to the assurances of the manufacturers, can easily last a couple of decades, sags and cracks under the wheels of your car at the entrance. What to do? Give up tiles in this place? Of course not! Just where there is an increased load, and the tiles need to be laid in a different way.

Three parking options in a private courtyard

Let's start with a principled approach: can paving slabs even support the weight of a car? Of course, maybe you can easily find confirmation of this.

In places where the tiles were laid by professionals, there are no problems if a car has driven in.

As you already understood, the whole secret is in laying paving elements. And, according to professionals, there are three working options for laying paving slabs for car parking: on a slab of concrete, on a screed and on a rammed base. You just need to follow the rules, and you can safely park your "swallow" on the paved courtyard.

Parking on tiles on concrete slab

If you consider different options for laying tiles for parking, then this one will cost you the most. But it makes sense to spend money if you do not have an ordinary passenger car, but a commercial vehicle with good carrying capacity.

You will also have to lay tiles on a concrete slab if your site has unstable soil or a septic tank is located at the parking site

To equip a slab for a tile, you need to remove the top layer of soil and fill up a sand and gravel pillow 10-15 centimeters high. To make the base dense, it is first spilled with water and rammed. Then the concrete mixer works. A 10 cm layer of concrete is poured for a passenger car and 20 cm for a truck.

After the concrete base has completely hardened, you can lay the tiles, and its thickness will no longer be important, it will go thin, about 4 centimeters. Tiles on concrete are laid on a dry sand-cement mixture.

Laying tiles on a screed

The costs of pouring a concrete slab are considerable, so if you have a machine weighing less than 5 tons, there is no point in spending that way. You can do not with a slab, but with a concrete screed.

To equip a screed for paving slabs, it is important that the soil is carefully compacted. It is imperative to use reinforcement for the screed.

Here, both a metal mesh and reinforcement made of composite materials are suitable. As in the first option, holes are left in the filling of the screed so that the water leaves.

The screed is poured with a layer of up to 10 cm, allowed to harden well, and then the tiles are laid on the same dry sand-cement mixture.

No extra costs: laying tiles for parking on compacted soil

If you are on a tight budget, you can go the other way. First, in the parking area, soil is selected to a depth of at least 30 cm. Then the soil is poured abundantly with water several times and tamped. Then the gravel cushion is poured.

Coarse sand is poured onto the gravel and carefully tamped. A reinforcing mesh is placed on such a pillow. It doesn't matter which one you choose: composite or metal. The main thing is that it keeps its shape well. But the tiles are laid directly on the grid, pouring in a dry sand-cement mixture. There is only one nuance in this installation for parking: the thickness of the tiles must be at least 6 cm, everything that is thinner will be pressed through by the car.
