Unusual solution for a standard apartment

The huge apartment of Andrey Smolyakov and his wife is located in a pre-revolutionary building on Staraya Basmannaya Street. Over time, they agreed with all the neighbors and bought each family decent apartments and even helped with the move. So for several years the artist became the owner of the former tenement house.

Andrey Smolyakov decided to allocate a separate space for a workshop in his huge apartment, which will become a creative studio for the wife of an ethnofuturist designer. Daria captivated the artist so much with her works that he himself gladly takes part in the creation of new projects. The premises on the ground floor were converted into an exhibition salon.

It was easy to implement the conceived solution for the unique design of the apartment, since the apartments had a linear layout and the rooms were located along a long corridor. Two entrances: the front door and the black one, came in, as is impossible, by the way, colleagues can visit the creative studio without going into the personal space of the owners.

Original design ideas

The plank floor in the entire apartment was replaced natural parquet, the walls were just painted in white and delicate peach shades. Instead of old wooden windows, they installed modern energy-saving double-glazed windows. Basic furniture is quite budget, almost all of it was purchased from Ikea. Subsequently, the couple worked on its appearance and decorated it with silk contrasting upholstery in ethnic style.

Unique living room interior

The family abandoned the traditional design of the living room with the usual walls and classic dressers. Instead, Andrey installed around the interior door original shelving with diagonal shelves for storing fabric cuts, designer hats and patterns, from which Daria creates her collections in ethnic style.

A sofa with bright handmade capes was placed in the recreation area. Two armchairs were placed opposite and big TVmounted on a red chest of drawers decorated in decoupage technique. The walls are decorated with unique embroideries, which Andrei and Daria brought from a trip to Panama. There are a lot of ethnographic things in the apartment that the spouses get on their trips.

Not so long ago, Andrei Smolyakov began collecting unique knives and antique amulets brought from flea markets from all over the world. Especially for them in coffee table installed high-strength glass, under which a spacious box was equipped.

Ethno-cuisine in a city apartment

Andrei Smolyakov decided not to increase the kitchen area, the standard space was enough for the family. The walls were decorated with an imitation of a log house, which made the room look like a Russian hut. Linear was placed on one side modern headsetwith a small dining table from solid wood with carved legs and a couple of chairs with high backs.

Study Spouses is a creative workshop filled with vibrant fabrics, crafts and original handicrafts. At first glance, it seems as if the room looks like a flea market, but it is not. In space, everything is located quite harmoniously. A high open shelving was erected for materials and sketches. The room is decorated with wicker baskets and handmade panels.

Ethnographic decor items

Andrei Smolyakov's apartment is filled with unusual decor items that he and his wife bring back from the trip. For example, the ethnic carpet on the wall in the living room came from Bukhara, wooden figurines came from colonial Africa and Asian countries. The interior of the apartment seems to be alive, as Daria often changes the decor and adds new unique crafts.

The floors in the apartment are covered with Indian handmade carpets. The uniqueness of the interior is given unusual screens with elements of ethnography. Not only fabrics and crafts are stored on open shelves, the family has a good collection of books that they enjoy reading aloud in their free time.
