Location and layout of the penthouse by Irina Khakamada

The unique house in which Irina Khakamada bought an apartment is located in Petrovsky Lane between the Vysokopetrovsky Monastery and the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater. Back in the mid-80s of the last century, a quiet, cozy courtyard appeared in this place, closed from outsiders by a barrier.

The penthouse occupies the top floor of a former apartment building. There used to be an attic above the apartment. Over time, the roof leaked, and Irina was forced to start organizing the repair of the roof. And then she came up with a wonderful idea - to renovate the attic and register it as a property.

While agreeing on the redevelopment, the architect discovered that in the city plan the height of the house was much higher. Thus, it was possible to raise the roof, and thanks to this, two more attic floors appeared in the penthouse, and the area increased to 150 sq. m. The windows of the apartment offer a stunning view of the bell towers of the monastery and the golden domes of the Kremlin. The entire renovation took about four years.

Interesting design ideas

Irina Khakamada often visited Asia, but Bangkok made a special impression on her with ancient palaces and unusual furniture. She fell in love with the oriental style at first sight, so there were no disputes with her husband about the registration of housing.

The cost of housing was quite high, so Irina initially decided not to spend a lot of money on furnishing. She bought almost all of the items in ethnic pavilions and flea markets. And an unmistakable sense of style made it possible to combine completely different things into a single whole.

The penthouse is divided into male and female zones, and for both the spouse and Irina there are separate bedrooms with bathrooms, study rooms and dressing rooms. The common area in the house is a living room, a library and a kitchen.

Irina and her husband value personal space and freedom first of all, so they have arranged the most comfortable conditions for everyone, without overlapping their own interests. For example, if one listens to loud music, while the other is resting at this time, or he needs to work in silence.

Open communications on the ceiling prompted the idea to use it for decoration loft style. Two walls were simply plastered, the brickwork near the window was restored and covered with a protective compound.

A professional stove was placed in the corner, a powerful stainless steel hood was installed above it. The three-compartment refrigerator in metallic color is ideal to match. The upper kitchen cabinets serve as a bright accent, behind the glass doors of which dishes in an oriental theme are placed.

On the second floor, a common living room was arranged, in which Irina and her husband receive their closest friends. Additional energy-efficient double-glazed windows in the pitched roof increased the room's illumination throughout the day. The interior is complemented by a luxurious multi-tiered chandelier with crystal trimmings.

In the recreation area, they put two small sofas and two armchairs with ears in the English style, between them placed a low coffee table with graceful legs, made of solid wood. Despite the different upholstery, all items are perfectly coordinated with each other.

Irina Khakamada's office

There is no desk in Irina's office. As a rule, she works with a laptop, sitting in a cozy leather armchair made of genuine leather with wooden armrests. Nearby for comfort there is a low footrest. The upholstery of an antique sofa, whose frame is decorated with hand carvings, matches the light green walls. A grandfather clock with striking complements the furnishings of the room.

The bedroom was decorated in ethno style. The main place is occupied by a large double bed, three pillows, fixed to the wall with ordinary twine, act as a headboard. Nearby is a floor-mounted swivel mirror, framed in a white solid wood frame. The room is decorated with antique chests, a small inclined ladder-shaped rack and a rocking horse. The windows are decorated with a single-color cotton fabric of a delicate yellow hue.

The en-suite bathroom is decorated in the same style with vintage pieces. The key accent of the room is an antique solid wood washbasin with an overhead porcelain sink in the form of a large bowl decorated with painting. A shower cubicle behind a glass partition with laser engraving, a heated towel rail in bronze and a wicker basket are ideally matched to them.
