Remember the famous story about a doctor who went overboard on New Year's Eve and ended up in someone else's apartment in a strange city? The reason was very simple: in those days everything was the same: from the names of the streets to the keys to the doors. So it is not surprising that would be born a story. All entrances were like twins, but nothing of the landings and say no. All as one, or were painted in green or blue, with even stripes on the stairs. Interestingly, and why they are painted stage? And why only at the edges?

Those were the days!

Today it is difficult to imagine that at one time were given free apartments. And did not have to harness oneself in a lifetime mortgage, save every penny, or to wander the removable apartments with trunks. In a large and wealthy countries lacked the resources to ensure that each family to provide their own housing. And who else says that it was bad under the Soviet Union?

Yes, everything was the same, but everyone and everyone, and not just the elect

In those recent times, house-building factories were engaged in construction, which worked according to standard projects and stamped high-rise buildings like a blueprint, but in a very short time.

The apartments had small kitchens, modest rooms, but all with gas, central heating and other amenities.

What did the Soviet entrances look like?

The entrances to the stamped high-rise buildings were also all the same. The main motto of their design is practicality.

And only two colors made it possible to quickly resolve the issue with the repair. Now we know that only gray has fifty shades, but then it was just blue and just red from a domestic manufacturer of paints. No variation. I bought blue, which means that after a while, if there is a need to tint something, you buy blue again and you will definitely match the tone.

Someone will say that blue and green were chosen for a reason: it seems like these are the calmest colors that do not aggressively affect the psyche. But, to be honest, it is unlikely that the builders then thought about the psyche. Most likely, just one project was developed, the author of which liked green and blue, and no one will change the state order for each entrance. One way or another, there were no yellow, red, pink and some other entrances - this is a fact.

Why did you paint the steps along the edges?

The walls were sorted out. And what was the point of painting the steps, and only along the edge, retreating from the wall by 10-15 centimeters?

The steps in the Soviet entrances, like the panel walls, were made of reinforced concrete, so there was almost no demolition. This is now, when the houses are already 50-70 years old, the steps began to rub in the center, forming a barely noticeable recessPHOTO: Yandex. Zen

And then the steps were painted for two reasons. The first one is very simple: after painting the wall, drops of paint fell on the steps just along the junction with the wall, and to mask this, stripes were made with the same wall paint.

And the second reason is that the junction of the wall and the step has always collected debris and dirt. With regular cleaning of the porches (yes, this was done regularly!), It was much more convenient to sweep and wash off the dirt in such places if the surface was covered with paint that does not absorb water and dirt.

And there was no point in painting all the steps, they would be erased from constant load.

Here is a short video on this topic:

That's the whole secret. It remains only to understand why sometimes the edge of the steps was painted not with the same paint as the walls, but with red? What do you think? Share your opinion in the comments!
