The basics of homemade lampshades: frame and frameless solution
A wide choice of materials and the availability of free time will allow you to make a lampshade quickly, and the product will receive an individual solution. The structure can be based on a frame, or the lamp can be with a frameless apparel.
Models on the wireframe
Replacing the old lampshade with a new one is needed when the old one began to look ugly, or just the soul asked for an update of the previous design. In this case, a ready-made frame is used - you just need to remove the existing coating from it.
The framework needs to be updated. For this, traces of rust and all kinds of damage are removed, painting is done, if required. If the frame is completely unusable, then a new one is being made.
Simple solution: how you can make a frame for a lampshade with your own hands
First, we decide what we will make the frame from, for example, it can be wire or a plastic waste basket.
If it is a plastic container or basket, you will need to make a hole in the bottom for the cartridge.
It is better to take the wire from aluminum or steel. The first option is easier to process than the steel one, which is more difficult to use due to its elasticity, but the shape will be just as strong and stable. Male power will come in handy, as well as the help of strong wire cutters and pliers. Traditionally, the frame consists of two rings of different sizes and posts, which serve as fastening joints. The size of the circles and the length of the posts determine the dimensions future lampshade.
How many racks are required depends on the size of the rings: the more such elements, the rounder the product, especially if the finish is textile. It is recommended to leave about 4.5-6 cm between the posts. Each is fastened to rings either with small hooks, tightly clamping them with pliers or screwing them on. The easiest way to do this is with aluminum wire. The rack will not slide if you process the attachment points with coarse sandpaper.
Steel posts with a wire diameter greater than 2 mm are welded.
You should not worry about traces from welding, there will be no defects under the lampshade, moreover, the frame can be wrapped with tapes dipped in PVA glue.
Ready-made wire mesh can be used to make a chic lamp base. The mesh is rolled up into a ring with the desired size, and on the side all cells, in order to avoid straightening the cylinder, are securely fixed to each other by a wire method.
Braiding and covering the frame
If you are fired up with the idea of making a lampshade for a table lamp with your own hands, then you need to think about how to fit or braid the frame. Several ideas will be presented below.
Method for making frameless models
It goes without saying that frameless models lack a solid foundation. What kind of lampshade is it then? These are products that can be crocheted and fixed with glue, for example, wooden elements fastened together and constituting a finished shade. Also, the product can be woven from jute, strong threads, paper.
Knitted lace napkins also easily turn into an original frameless shade. To create it, the base is an inflated ball or an unnecessary ball, glue for heavy wallpaper and a brush.
The glue is diluted, it swells, after which the most interesting begins: the ball or ball is suspended and covered with a napkin smeared with glue. If you need several napkins on a large ball, then they are laid out sequentially, an overlap is needed for a secure attachment. In the center, do not forget to leave a place for the cartridge. The ball is blown away, and a beautiful openwork lampshade is in the hands.
With this method, you need to take care of the cartridge: it is threaded into the cut neck of the bottle, to which such a homemade lampshade is attached.
