No one knows exactly when and how the first glass was invented. Obviously, people discovered after a powerful thunderstorm melted sand baked into a single mass, but how did they come up with the idea of making it artificially? Let's leave these reflections to historians, because modern glass - this is a technologically complex material, not at all what became the first windows. Now there are two main types of glass: silicate, which is made using the same technology with the melting of quartz sand, and organic, which is made from acrylic polymers.
Both types of glass are suitable for installation as a floor, there are only some nuances that should be taken into account.
Varieties of glass floors
Glass floors will undoubtedly become a highlight of the interior, and they can be decorated using different types of materials.
The simplest solution is glass tiles. Such material is produced industrially, and for floors on one side glass plate a ceramic substrate with a pattern is applied.
Of course, more often than not, tiles can be found not on floors, but on walls. Its installation does not differ from ordinary tiles, so the technology is known, and the material itself is available in any hardware store. A glass floor can be made completely throughout the entire room, or you can equip, for example, a glazed niche with some kind of installation inside, which is also quite interesting.
To lay glass plates, you need to make logs at intervals of 60–80 cm for a three-layer triplex and up to 1 m for a four-layer one.
Three-dimensional niches with installations are usually placed in the center of the room. To arrange such a niche, the rest of the level will have to be raised. So calculate your capabilities correctly: with low ceilings, the loss of height can be dramatic and not every room is suitable for such an idea. And if the ceilings are high, there will be no problems. Usually the rise is filled with a screed, leaving only a niche free.
Double-sided tape is used to fix the triplex on the floor, and all gaps are filled with transparent silicone sealant.
