Fabric

Very often tulle can call not only the fabric itself, but all transparent light curtains. They can be made from both tulle and other fabrics - often organza, less often cotton and viscose.

Before you start working with lightweight artificial fabric( organza, tulle):

  • Pay attention to the canvas and determine how the share thread passes. The cloth should be cut along it.
  • Before beginning to trim the edges, they should be steamed off with an iron.
  • If your fabric is tulle, then to make it easier to navigate, pull one thread from the material at a distance of 0.5-1 cm from the edge, and then cut along the line. With any other fabric, this trick will not work - you will have to equate without a guideline.

Important! Artificial tulle is quite slippery, so each edge needs to be aligned one at a time. Under the fabric it is desirable to put dense cotton material, so that it slips less.

Filing methods:

  • Often, organza and tulle curtains are hemmed in a double folding fashion.
  • To save fabric and not make the curtain too heavy, you can use the so-called Moscow seam.
  • And if there is a need for decorative edge trim, then you can use a ready-made slanting bake or sew a braid.

Needles and threads:

  • To sew the organza tulle, you should choose thin threads of size 40 or even smaller.
  • Their color must necessarily be in harmony with the color of the fabric. If you have an iridescent material, then select the threads for a couple of tones lighter - light on a dark background does not stand out so much.
  • Needles inserted into the machine are thin. They should be sharp, because tulle is a very delicate material, it easily tears and contracts.

Preparatory work:

  • Before starting work, the table should be sent with a cotton cloth - this will reduce the sliding of the curtains over the surface.
  • It is desirable to sew a very thin fabric on papyrus paper. And after the line is executed, this paper is simply torn off.
  • Before starting work on the sewing machine, you should try to stitch a little on a small unnecessary piece of tulle. If necessary, you need to adjust the thread tension and the stitch length. The stitches are made with a straight stitch with an average step length( 3-4 mm).

Side edges

To properly sew the curtains and tulle by yourself, first you need to process the side edges of the curtain:

  1. The edge must be trimmed smoothly and also ironed.
  2. Put the tulle face down, wrap the hem in a couple of centimeters and iron it with an iron.
  3. Turn the edge again a couple of centimeters and iron it. So we get a double fold.
  4. To prevent the fabric from slipping, you can fix it with pins before ironing.
  5. Use the machine to stitch a seam a couple of millimeters away from the edge of the fold.

In the same way we process the second side edge of your curtains.

Sew on length

Some curtains have beautiful trim at the bottom - festons, lace, original pattern. It happens that in the tulle inserted weights - weights or special cord. In this case, the length of the curtain can be adjusted only if the upper edge is treated.

If the fabric is a simple bottom, then it's nice to sew a tulle in several ways. The simplest is a double fold, the same as on the sides of the canvas.

The width of the fold should be slightly larger than on the sides - this depends on the material of the curtain:

  • In the rigid material( organza, kapron), the width of the doorway must be at least 3 cm.
  • Light tulle and veil can be turned by 2 cm.
  • Plastic meshes desirablehem width 1 cm.

The oblique bake and the Moscow seam( American) are more difficult to perform.

Important! The bottom of the curtains of light types of fabrics is undesirable to be treated with an overlock seam or zigzag - so the fabric slightly falls down and drapes.

Moscow seam

How to sew a tulle at home? A great way is the so-called Moscow seam.

Perform it as follows:

  1. Turn the edges of the curtains to 0.5-1 cm and iron.
  2. Perform a straight stitch at a distance of 2 cm from the edge of the fold.
  3. Cut off excess material of the gate at a distance of 2 mm from the stitch. The fabric should not crumble.
  4. Once again tuck the fabric, iron and stitch it. Try to get in the first line or make a seam 2 mm from it. The first seam remains inside the fold.

Thus, it turns out a light, airy edge of the curtains with a minimum expenditure of fabric on the doorway.

Slant bake

Most often this option is used for processing material with embroidery or tulle netting.

Important! For him you will need a special foot, which should go in a set to the sewing machine. If you do not have it, then you have to buy it in any of the sewing shops. Also suitable snap foot. The lower part of the curtain is cut off smoothly, smoothed and tucked while performing the stitching( the edge of the cloth is tucked into the foot).

You can buy oblique bake in the store. This is an applied tape with fitted overruns, which performs a decorative function. Sew it as follows:

  1. Pin the jig with the pins to the bottom edge of the tulle.
  2. Check the joints.
  3. Perform a straight stitch.

Handle the top edge of the

As a rule, the upper edges of the curtains are dealt with at the very end. Often used for this purpose curtain tape - it's beautiful, and convenient. Using curtain tape, or ecstasy, you can make different creases and drapes:

  1. Measure the desired length of the curtain. For practicality, you should make it 10 cm less than the distance from the cornice to the floor, however, some like curtains "on the floor."
  2. For the required length, leave an allowance of 2 cm.
  3. Buy curtain tape from the calculation of the width of the curtain plus about 5 cm but the side folds.
  4. Tulle is laid face down and tucked in 2 cm, and then smoothed.
  5. The blind tape is applied to the gate. Ties and cords are located on the outside.
  6. The tape is pinned with the help of pins and the stitch is executed at a distance of 3 mm from the upper edge of the curtain.
  7. Coming to the edge, the cords are released, and the tape allowance is turned 2 cm inward from each side.
  8. On the bottom edge of the tape perform the second line, also with an indentation of 2 mm.
  9. The curtain is ironed and tightened with tape to the desired configuration of folds.

That's all, the curtain is ready to take its place on the window, to please you with its beauty!

To summarize, I would like to say that if you buy curtains in a store, and do not sew them on the order, then, most likely, you will have to properly sew the curtains and tulle yourself. For this purpose you will need a sewing machine. Of course, you can make stitches and manually, but it is very laborious.
