If holes on the joints of products can be sewn without problems with a machine or hand-crafted, then it is better to sew a neat patch on the surface of the damaged fabric. It can be almost invisible or, on the contrary, catch your eye. Today, even the blanks do not have to be done on their own.

Profile stores offer a variety of flap variations that will adorn elbows, knees or any other affected part of the object. Even jeans that have been torn between the legs can be restored if desired, having spent only a few minutes of their time on this.

Types of patches, the rules for their implementation

First of all, it is necessary to understand what patches are, what they differ, what their advantages and disadvantages are. Functional elements with decorative properties are conventionally divided into three groups:

  1. Two-sided. Most often used to repair jeans, torn on elbow sleeve, rubbed knees. It consists of two parts of the same shape, but slightly different in size. At the first stage, the smaller element with any seam is sewn to the problem zone from the wrong side. On the second, a large piece is superimposed on the face, it must completely cover the traces from the seam of the base patch. In this case, you can only use a secret seam, done by hand, even a neat machine line will catch your eye.
  2. Vtachnaya. Decorative version, which can acquire any shape. With its help, you can decorate not only such problem areas as a sleeve or knee, but also areas on the front of the product. Some creative people even use such elements to restore the zone on the trousers between the legs. If you add several similar applications to your trousers, it looks very original.
  3. Waybill. The simplest, but not the most reliable kind. If everything is done correctly, the element will be almost invisible, but the service life is not pleasant. You just need to take a suitable flap and sew it to the surface of the fabric from the front side with a hidden seam.

Tip: If in the process of using flaps that are different in texture from the base, it is better to pre-wet them and sew them in a slightly damp kind. This will prevent deformation of the patch after washing the product.

After the completion of the work, the renewed site must be ironed and, if possible, stripped. Jeans and trousers made of dense fabric are recommended immediately to wash to make sure that the fabric has laid down as needed and there is no wrinkling of the site. When selecting flaps you need to base not only on the decorative and functional properties of the fabric, but also correctly correlate the texture of the material with the base. Dense leather or velvet patches on light matter will not look appropriate.

How to sew a patch on the jeans between the legs?

With regular wear, the trousers wear out rapidly in the area between the legs due to constant friction. Most often, jeans made of natural fabric suffer from this. For a restorative procedure, it is better for beginners not to experiment with different materials and simply to take the flaps of matter that could remain after shortening the pants. Sewing elements can be done manually, but only if the needle skills are at a high level.

The event itself looks like this:

  • First you need to wash your jeans, dry and iron. The same is done with the pieces of cloth, which we will cut out the patches.
  • Work with the area between the legs should be carried out mirror, even if only one side is damaged. To do this, we disassemble the joints, iron the fabric, remove excess threads. We designate with chalk the lines along which we will cut out the material, leaving a place for the seams.
  • We cut out from the material of the patch, we definitely leave the allowances on the seams. In the process of creating patterns, you need to use the mirror principle, otherwise one of the legs may warp.
  • Next we sew patches on jeans using a connecting seam. Threads in this case must correspond to those that were used for tailoring the product. In the absence of appropriate skills, it is better to do with a machine stitch( zigzag or overlock).

After manipulation, you need to make sure that the length of the pants is not affected, and in the area between the legs there are no uncomfortable sensations.

Elbow patches - how to sew to look neat?

To restore the sleeve in the elbow area, you can use any of the listed types of patches. If you want not just to repair a thing, but also to give it a unique appearance, then it's worth trying a variant with a kind of woolen heel. Best of all, such a move will look on a tight or light sweater, sweetshirt.

The manipulation looks like this:

  1. Cooking everything you need. In addition to the sweater, we will need a tight rectangular sponge, a shape( profile or confectionery), colored wool, felting needles and scotch tape.
  2. We put on a sweater, bend our arms in the elbows and glue pieces of scotch at a distance of 2-3 cm from the fold. Thanks to the marks, everything will be done exactly.
  3. After that, pull the sleeve on the sponge, apply the shape, orienting the bottom edge of the tape and spread the shape of the wool.
  4. Then we lay the wool with the traditional method, piercing it with a needle located at a right angle. We act until the fluffy coat turns into a dense layer.
  5. We remove the form and fix the work by steaming the iron. So you can decorate and one sleeve, but the product will look more harmonious with two similar patches.

If initially everything was done correctly, patches will not require special care. They will last for so long, preserving the original neat appearance.
