Everybody pays attention to the choice of a pillow, because the quality of sleep and the overall well-being of a person depend on its comfort. Choosing your favorite bedding, you need to know whether it is easy to clean it. A weekly change of pillowcases will not be enough to ensure absolute cleanliness and freshness. A soft and fluffy pillow accumulates a huge amount of dust, which can cause you the strongest allergy. Cleaning of sleeping accessories is necessary to prevent the appearance of bed bugs in them.
Before choosing the necessary method of cleaning the pillow at home, find out what kind of filler it has. It can be made of the following materials:
- fluff;
- pen;
- synthetic materials( holofiber, polyester, sintepon);
- foam rubber;
- natural fibers( sheep or camel wool, cotton, bamboo).
Despite the variety of modern fillers for bedding, feather pillows have not lost their popularity. The pillows with synthetic fillers are the most simple in operation. Pooh and feather absorb water, which makes the process of washing and quick drying difficult. Nevertheless, there are effective methods for cleaning feather pillows at home.
Handwashing
Hand washing is a difficult and far from fast task. This cleaning requires patience and accuracy. To implement it you will need:
- new naperniki;
- liquid powder for washing woolen things( liquid soap will also suit);
- has a lot of gauze;
- the conditioner for clothes.
From gauze you need to sew 3 bags for washing the pen. Their size depends on the size of the pillow itself. Dispose of the old napernik, take out the entire feather. Divide it by eye into three parts, and place it in prepared cases of gauze fabric. They need to be very tightly tied or sewed. In warm water, dissolve the required amount of powder or soap and rinse the pouches in them. Water should be changed 3 times, and for the last time, instead of soap, add air conditioning.
Well squeeze the gauze covers to allow excess water from the glass pen. In the summer they should be dried on the street under the sun. If you decide to clean the bedding in winter, dry the pen with a warm battery. It must be periodically beaten, so that it does not shrivel and turn into a ball. Take a new napernik( it can be sewn by yourself) and gently shift the feathers into it. After ripping gauze covers air feathers can scatter around the room.

Wash the dust bag in advance and vacuum up all the flying feathers to place them inside the pillow.
Machine wash
Cleaning in a washing machine is less effective, but the procedure is much easier and less time-consuming. It is necessary to put in the drum of the machine two feather pillows at a time to maintain the balance: so the machine will not "walk with staggering" when squeezing. As a detergent, use only liquid powders( for washing wool or silk).Do not use bleach at all. The water temperature is not higher than 30 degrees, the squeezing mode is minimal. Optimum modes - "Pooh", "Duvet" and others.
To clean the washing machine deeper, you can repeat the operation by dividing the pen into three parts. For cases it is better to take old pillow cases, the gauze cloth will break in the drum of the washing machine. You need to set the correct mode, and do not forget about additional rinsing. During the rinse, fill the air conditioner. After removing the covers with the feathers from the drum, put them on a bath towel and fold the tight roller. This will help absorb unnecessary liquid.
Drying of feathers should not take more than 2 days. If cleaning is done in the summer, bedding should be dried on the street( in the yard or on the balcony).From time to time you need to shake the napernik so that the fluff does not get lost in a tight lump and quickly dry out. In winter, you need to use a hot battery for drying. If the fluff and feather do not dry out in 2 days, an unpleasant moist odor will appear, the filler will begin to mold.
While the pillow dries, the time to clean naperniki. They need to be washed in a washing machine( the higher the temperature, the better the result will be).If there is serious pollution( wine, coffee, blood) and clean the cover fails, buy new fresh naperniki. You can buy a few meters of calico or satin and sew them at home. During filling with feathered feathers, feathers will fly around the house. Spread the largest sheet and conduct the operation on it.
