Most often the owners of expensive items are wondering whether it is possible to clean gold and silver jewelry yourself. Particular difficulties are caused by the processing of objects with stones of mineral or organic origin, especially those as expensive as diamonds.
Effective options for the restoration of gold jewelry using the available tools
One of the most effective and sparing options for cleaning gold products is their mechanical treatment with a soft fleecy material. If this manipulation is carried out regularly at home, then the use of aggressive variants of influence or the help of specialists will not be necessary. Just rub the surface to a shine, carefully working out each section. However, in order to clean out old pollution, you will have to pick something more intense:
- Soap solution. Two approaches to the use of the formulation are allowed. In the first case, the products are soaked in a slightly warm product for a couple of hours, after which they are treated with a toothbrush, washed under running water and dried. The second option is more intense and involves boiling objects. They are lowered into the composition and boiled for no more than two minutes, then they are pulled out and brushed. Even such a short-term impact will negatively affect the stones, so it is better not to process jewelry with diamonds.
- Soda. In a small container pour a glass of water, immerse the contaminated objects and put on fire. In hot water add a tablespoon of soda, stir and hold for a couple of minutes. We get the products, brush them, rinse them and dry them. To rub the surface with soda blemish is strictly prohibited! The abrasive scratches the surface, changing its appearance.
- Sweet liquid. In a glass of water we dissolve a tablespoon of sugar, we immerse the composition of gold and keep at least 3-4 hours. Then rinse the object under running water and dry it. Thus, it is recommended to take care of ornaments regularly, getting rid of greasy plaque and preventing the appearance of persistent impurities.
- Toothpaste. Apply the product to the work surface, take a soft brush and begin to rub the product. Movements should be sure, but without special pressure.
- Onion juice. One of the most affordable means at home. Just rub the products with onion juice( squeezed or cut) and leave for a couple of hours. The object does not even need to be rubbed after that, just rinse it under running water and dry.
- Nitrate with peroxide. Very intensive approach, which is not recommended for use with inserts, especially if they are diamonds or other stones. In a glass of cold water, we divorce three tablespoons of ammonia, two tablespoons of 3% hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of liquid soap. Soak in the composition of gold, hold for several hours and rinse.
In addition, there are professional tools for the recovery of precious metals. It is quite simple to apply them, but before you clean the product with a finished product, you should carefully read the instructions.
Basics of high-quality cleaning of silver products
It is necessary to clean products from silver quite often. Metal rapidly darkens with regular wear, thus reacting to sulfur, which is contained in human sweat. Fortunately, the metal is not whimsical and can be easily restored even at home.
- From a greasy plaque without problems will save a little warm soapy water. The effectiveness of the approach will increase many times, if a glass of such a composition is diluted with a tablespoon of ammonia. Soak the object for a few minutes, after that the surface should be cleaned with a soft cloth.
- From blackness at home, a complex event will save. First we soak the product in soapy water for at least two hours. Then rinse and wipe with a soft cloth. Then we put on the surface gruel from tooth powder and ammonia. We rub it with a soft cloth and scalded with boiling water. Then wash it under running water and polish it until it shines.
- If you need to immediately clean silver, and at hand there is no household chemicals, you can use the juice of raw potatoes. We rub it into the surface affected by the black, leave it for an hour, after which we again mechanically process and wash the product.
These techniques are strictly not suitable for processing silver jewelry with diamonds, other precious or semiprecious stones.
How do I clean diamonds and other stones at home?
The stones require special care, but this does not mean that the owners of such ornaments need to refer to professionals without fail. At home, capricious products can also be cleaned, you only need to remember about their specifics:
- Sapphires, aquamarines and rubies are characterized by increased density, so in their case cleaning with warm water with a detergent or hair shampoo is allowed.
Tip: Topaz, garnets and rubies can change their original color under high temperatures, so only slightly warm or cold water can be used to treat them.
- It's not at all difficult to care for zirconium, diamonds, and cubic zirconia. They respond well to the treatment with ammonia or a solution based on laundry soap. Strong and dense diamonds are even allowed to rub soft brushes.
- Turquoise, pearls and coral react negatively to chemicals. The maximum that can be done with them is to wipe the flannel.
Specialists categorically prohibit wetting products on which stones are glued to the surface. They are difficult to clean even mechanically, it is better not to try to do it at home and trust professionals.
