How does the electric kettle work?- Features of the structure of network nodes

To properly repair the electric kettle, you first need to understand how they generally work. It is not difficult to do this - you need to study the electrical circuit, because almost all models of modern electric kettles are assembled according to the same scheme, regardless of volume and appearance.

Important! The only difference that can be is the presence of a timer, but the complexity of the circuit does not increase significantly.

The device operates as follows:

  1. The electrical voltage from the plug is applied to the stand contacts by means of a flexible cord. In the stand the pins are deeply hidden, so do not be afraid of probable contact with them. Carefully having considered, it is possible to see in each groove one electric spring-loaded contact thanks to which the kettle also feeds.
  2. The electric power is then transferred from the stand to the center of the device, where the return contacts are located in the form of a grounding pin and two copper concentric rings.
  3. The main element of the kettle is a tubular heater having the form of a closed ring. At the ends of the TEN there are ceramic insulated terminals necessary for supplying voltage. To them, in turn, flat steel contacts are connected with the attached clamp terminals.
  4. It has a kettle and a special unit that protects it from overheating and is used to turn it on - it is fixed using three screws or nuts, but is located in the heart of the TEN.

As the heaters of any electrical appliance are powerful enough and get very hot during operation, all models are equipped with a special protective system. The principle of its operation is simple. Bimetallic plates are heated to a certain temperature, and begin to unbend, thereby closing the chain, which prevents overheating.

Important! Also in all models of electric kettles there is a system that provides for the power outage, respectively - the termination of the heating process in cases when the water reaches the desired temperature. Just during the heating, the steam gets through a special channel to the bimetallic plate, and it presses under the pressure on the switch lever.

Repair of an electric kettle at home

And now let's look at how to repair an electric kettle by yourself. In fact, everything is simple enough. Here are the options for possible malfunctions and how to solve them.

Water ceased to heat up

This is the most common, but also the most simple problem to solve. In this case, the fault is caused by a break that occurred on some part of the heater or a lack of contact in some terminals.

It is easy to restore the device:

  1. It is necessary to disassemble it and find the place where the contacts have moved away.
  2. Once the fault is detected, use pliers to resume the connection of the terminals to the TEN contacts.

The device has stopped heating the water and the indicator does not show whether it works or not.

First, we check whether the mains power is working. If there is voltage, then the reason lies in the damaged contact of current collectors, which are located in the stand or body of the kettle.

Here you first need to check how well the spring-loaded contacts are secured. For this:

  1. We disassemble the stand.
  2. We get the ring with all the contacts.
  3. We check the density of their fixation, because they have the property of blurring over time.
  4. We tighten them more tightly so that electricity again begins to pass through the contacts.

The overheating protection device of the electric kettle has ceased to function or the

switch has been broken. It is the breaker that breaks more often - due to temporary wear of plastic parts, as well as accumulated rust on a bimetallic plate. To check their condition, it is necessary:

  1. Remove the switch from the housing and check each part for integrity.
  2. Then carefully inspect the plate - in case of presence of rusty plaque or vapor, remove it.
  3. We check again the operation of the switch.

Important! Such measures are also taken when a protection against overheating breaks down, that is, we check the state of the bimetallic plates.

The kettle started to flow

In this situation, we check the integrity of the enclosure itself and determine where the water flows from. If the case is too neglected and all the water flows out of it, you will have to buy a new kettle, because the inner surface and low-quality plastic do not lend themselves to repair.

So we learned how to fix an electric kettle by yourself. Now you can do any repairs to such household appliances. The main thing is to follow the instructions clearly, and if you have any doubts that you will be able to do all the work yourself, immediately call the master or bring the kettle to the service center.
