The main ways to polish the watch glass

There are many ways to eliminate unwanted bands on the watch and you can do it yourself.

Important! The methods that will be described below are universal, that is, they can be applied to any kind of glass. Only depending on each material will have to show a different level of effort and accuracy.

Method one

This method is suitable for polishing glass on the watch at home, if it is formed only small scratches. For its implementation we will need the following materials:

  • Fine grained sandpaper. It can be replaced with GOI No. 1 paste.
  • Soap or abrasive tooth powder( you can use a paste).
  • Smooth surface for later work.
  • Soft fabric( preferably from microfiber).
  • A little water.

To perform this procedure, the following algorithm should be observed:

  1. Remove the glass from the body, then thoroughly wipe it with a prepared rag, thereby removing all impurities from the surface.
  2. Put the treated glass on a flat surface.
  3. You can then wet the glass with water and proceed to polishing the material you have chosen. Movements should be wavy and repeat with the same force of pressure on the surface.

Important! During the entire procedure, it is necessary to repeat the translational movements by wetting the glass with water. Thus, the surface is brought to matte state without any flaws.

  1. Apply the required amount of powder previously soaked in water( you can use paste or soap) on the newly ground surface. Use a microfibre cloth to continue polishing, using the same movements as polishing with sandpaper.

Important! After a couple of minutes you can already see the first results of your work, but do not stop there. Such polishing should last 10-20 minutes.

  1. To complete the procedure, the ground part is inserted back into the body of the device.

Method of the second

In this case, the polishing of the glass on the watch will refer to scratches of average depth. So, here's what we need for further work:

  • GOI paste numbers 1, 2 and 3.
  • Leather( can be replaced with felt).
  • Soap, abrasive tooth powder or paste.
  • Water.
  • Smooth and flat surface for further work.
  • Microfiber cloth.

To remove this type of scratches on the glass, observe the following steps:

  1. First of all, remove the glass from the watch case and gently wipe it with a microfibre cloth.
  2. Apply a little bit of GOI No. 3 to a microfibre cloth, which was previously moistened in water and wave-like movements to begin polishing the glass on the watch. When noticeable scratches are removed, you need to replace the used material with the second number and do the same procedure. In the last turn, the GOI is used under the first number for the removal of micro-scratches. In the end, the glass is perfectly matte without any flaws.
  3. When the glass is dried, it is necessary to apply tooth powder( or any of the three options of your choice) to it and continue to do the same actions with a damp cloth soaked in water. The steps in this step should last about 15 minutes.
  4. Wipe the treated surface from the remains of the used material and insert the glass back into the housing.

Method third

This method is ideal for deep strips. To grind the glass on the watch at home, you will need the following things:

  • GOI paste No. 1-4.
  • Sandpaper of medium and fine grain.
  • A piece of leather or felt.
  • Soap, abrasive tooth powder or paste.
  • Small amount of water.
  • Smooth smooth surface.

To further eliminate scratches, proceed as follows:

  1. Remove the glass from the housing and carefully wipe it off from possible dust or other contaminants.
  2. Begin the procedure using medium-grained sandpaper, while waving along the workpiece.
  3. Include GOI No. 4 in the case - it will help smooth out and remove the deepest and largest irregularities.
  4. To remove the following scratches in depth, it is necessary to use GOI materials with numbers 2 and 3, and then sandpaper with fine granularity.
  5. The last use is a paste with the number 1 - it will help to come to an ideal matte glass condition and to smooth out microscopic scratches.
  6. Now the frosted glass needs to be glossy. To do this, you need to polish it using soap, tooth powder.

Important! Movements should be the same as polishing with the previous materials, and the time of this procedure should be about 10-15 minutes.

  1. At the end of the procedure, you should put the glass back in the body of the mechanism and enjoy a clear view of the dial.

Sapphire crystal polishing

This material requires the greatest care from the master, because it is the hardest and brittle at the same time. That's why we consider this material separately.

In order to polish sapphire glass, it is necessary to replace GOI paste with diamond paste. The algorithm remains the same, depending on the depth of scratches. The only thing you need to do is to observe the utmost accuracy during the whole procedure, so as not to accidentally damage the surface completely.

In this article we have told you about three universal ways of polishing glass on the watch from scratches. To avoid frequent resort to them, it is recommended to treat your wrist accessory very carefully.
