The principle of operation of the column on batteries
A battery-operated column is a convenient way to service gas equipment. Very often, it is in the absence of light that such a column will not be able to get the necessary ignition. That is why it is better to use battery-powered geyser options.
The battery is used to ignite the gas with a spark. These batteries are low voltage. The appearance of a spark occurs due to the discharge between the cells of the battery. In gas water heaters, a spark is most often created when a hot water valve is opened.
The principle of operation of a water heater with gas heating is very simple - when the tap is opened, the network closes, a small amount of gas is supplied to the igniter, it creates a discharge - and the column is set on fire.
Usually in a gas column it is necessary to strictly monitor three parameters:
- the presence of a chimney draft detection sensor;
- the pressure control sensor in the supply pipe must be in good order;
- and flame control. If it is not there, the gas supply will automatically stop.
Additionally, a maximum flow water temperature sensor and an overpressure safety valve can be installed.
What batteries are used in speakers
For full operation of the gas column, power sources with a total voltage of 3 V are required. Therefore, batteries for a water heater stand out against the background of more familiar finger and mini-finger modifications. These are thicker "barrels" of class D, delivering a voltage of 1.5 V each.
Outwardly, they are slightly larger than ordinary finger, but can also be divided into alkaline and saline. As you might guess, saline ones fail faster, although they are significantly cheaper than alkaline ones.
Yes, at the first stage it will be significantly more expensive than ordinary batteries, but the price will soon pay off.
For geysers, nickel-metal hydride versions of batteries are best suited - NiMH D / HR20. However, before installing, you should make sure that the voltage in each battery is 1.5 V.

Why Batteries Lose Their Charge Quickly

Is it possible to ignite the column if the batteries are dead

Instructions for replacing old batteries
Usually, replacing batteries for a gas column is not difficult. As a rule, all these elements are located in an easily accessible place at the bottom of the gas column.
There are several configuration options for battery compartments:

Replacing worn-out batteries in a geyser takes place in several successive stages:
- It is necessary to turn off the gas and water supply to the column.

- Put the box back in place (or close the lid). Correct installation is characterized by a characteristic click.

Batteries or accumulator: is there a choice
As mentioned above, you should not save on things that will serve you for years. That is why we recommend purchasing batteries. The main thing is to choose the right voltage that is suitable for your speaker.
Connecting to the power supply column
Traditional power supplies can be considered an alternative to batteries and accumulators. However, for their correct installation, certain knowledge is required.
To upgrade your column, you can purchase an adapter that will “give out” the current needed to ignite the column. Since the batteries produce a total voltage of 3 V, you need a unit with a similar output voltage. The operating voltage in the network is 220 V, the adapter must have a similar input.
How to connect to the power supply column:
- We disconnect the wiring from the power supply of the column, having previously disconnected the structure from the network.
- Do not be lazy to take a picture of how the connectors from the batteries go.
- The polarity of the wires must be marked.
- Cut off the plug from the purchased power supply, separate its wires and carefully solder with the purchased connectors, observing the polarity.
Connect the prepared wires to the column, then plug the adapter into the network and perform a test run of the instantaneous water heater.
If the connection is made correctly, the geyser will work properly, maintaining the required water temperature. After a test run, you can hide the wires in the case.
To avoid malfunctions due to current fluctuations in the network, it is appropriate to add a stabilizer to the design. The device will save the column from power surges.
However, this solution may not always be optimal. First, now you are completely dependent on the current in the wiring. No electricity means no heat or hot water.
In addition, such a column upgrade will affect the possibility of returning your column for repair under warranty. Is it worth the risk?
