What paints are suitable for polycarbonate
It's worth starting with the fact that polycarbonate is plastic, its surface is smooth, and not all paint can adhere to it. So you need to pay attention only to formulations that are suitable for working with plastic and can adhere to it.
Based on all of the above, you can choose several suitable options:
- Pentaphthalic enamel with alkyd base. It dries quickly and adheres well to plastic, forming a durable coating.
- Acrylic paint. Easy to apply, forms an even dense layer, can be sprayed with an aerosol. But since acrylic paints do not tolerate atmospheric influences, they must be used from inside the building.
- Automotive paints. These compounds do not lose their color even under the scorching sun, adhere perfectly to plastic and resist mechanical stress.
- Lexan special paints. Bright compositions are not subject to atmospheric influences and can be used both inside and outside the building.
- Homemade chalk talkers. These formulations are usually used temporarily to shade greenhouses and are sprayed from a spray bottle. After the hot season, the paint is washed off with water using a brush.
What paints are not suitable for plicarbonate? You cannot paint this material with hammer paint, nitro paint and compounds based on organic solvents - they can hopelessly damage the plastic surface.
The nuances of painting polycarbonate
To keep the paint on the plastic, it is not enough just to apply it to the surface. Careful preparation of the foundation will be the key to success. For this, the material is first sanded with fine sandpaper, and then wiped with a solvent to degrease. Only the solvent should not be organic, choose an alcohol composition.
Painted polycarbonate ceases to be transparent, but still transmits light. This will help shade the greenhouse, pool or veranda from the bright sun, and make the fence less transparent. If the polycarbonate is scratched, painting will help hide the damage.
