At all times people desperately tried to convey what they saw to the people most reliably. A big step in this direction was made by mankind together with the invention of cinema. Development in this direction does not stop now. We are constantly learning about the emergence of new technologies in the field of cinema.
So, now more often from trailers to films you can hear the phrase "look in 3D and IMAX 3D".With the 3D format, everything is clear. But many still remain perplexed: what is the difference between 3D and IMAX 3D?And why is the ticket cost for an IMAX movie much more expensive?
Technical features 3D
So popular now 3D-format was patented as a way of filing movies back in the late 19th century. The whole focus of this technology lies in the fact that very different images are projected onto the left and right eyes of the person. But because of too fast frame rate, we do not notice it. It is thanks to this trick that we perceive the image as three-dimensional. For shooting just a 3D movie, a film 35 mm wide is used. In this case, it should move only vertically.
Types of 3D
At the moment, 3D is a whole class of different technologies that allow you to transfer a 3D image. We list only some of these technologies:
RealD - this method consists in the following: at a rate of 72 frames per second, three polarized frames are projected onto each eye. The screen here is silvered.(Example: Kinostar cinema network)
XPAN-D - alternately the right and left parts of the glasses are dimmed. All this happens at a speed of 48 frames per second.(Example: Cinema Park)
DOLBY-3D - here the light is divided into parts of the spectrum. Thus, each eye catches only waves with a specific range of length. This option is cheaper, but the color rendering suffers.
Features of IMAX 3D
Despite the fact that our country met recently with movies in the IMAX 3D format, it would be wrong to call this technology new. In 1971, the first IMAX cinema was opened in Canada. A little later, in 1986, in the same place began to show the first films in IMAX 3D.Thus, IMAX 3D is not such an innovation.
But why then for a long time this format has not received wide distribution, including in our country? And the answer is simple. To create and playback materials in the format IMAX 3D requires special equipment. So, IMAX 3D from 3D differs using different types of films. And if, as we already know, in the usual 3D format, a film of 35 mm is needed, then in IMAX, 70 mm is needed. Now, thanks to the special technology of Digital Media Remastering, it is possible to transfer data from one film to another.
In addition, IMAX 3D implies the presence of a special cinema and a special screen. IMAX( ImageMaximum) can be translated as "maximum image".Thus, it is necessary to use screens of huge size here. It is because the viewer does not see the boundaries of the screen and creates the very feeling of immersion in the actions on the film.
The standard IMAX screen is 22 m by 16 m. Also, unlike a conventional screen, this one has a curved shape. Due to the fact that the screen is large, the viewing room turns into a real panorama. The image quality in this panorama is much better, and the detailing here will be on top. And the number of rows in such a cinema can not exceed 15, otherwise the desired effect will not be achieved.
Another nice surprise for viewers who came to see a movie in the IMAX 3D format, can be excellent sound quality. Here it also acquires a three-dimensional form. This is due to the fact that the sound is like a special six-channel system. That's why it can be heard equally well anywhere in the cinema.
Conclusion
And now let's summarize the results. Here's what we managed to find out:
- First, the sound in the IMAX cinema is noticeably better, it has a three-dimensional form. And in every point of the hall everything will be heard equally well.
- The number of rows in a conventional cinema is much larger.
- IMAX 3D screen has a curved shape and huge size, due to which the effect of immersion in the movie.
- The cost of tickets in IMAX 3D is much more expensive. But it's definitely worth it.
