Drywall has become one of the most popular and sought-after materials. It is used as an independent material for walls, as well as for the construction of partitions, suspended ceilings, etc. But with all its obvious pluses, there are minuses. For example, it is quite difficult to hang a shelf on it, because if you do not calculate with the weight and installation of the shelves, there is a great chance to get a damaged GKL partition. Large cracks may appear and the integrity of the structure will be affected. To prevent this from happening, you need to competently approach the matter, use the necessary and high-quality materials. How to attach a shelf to a drywall wall by yourself?

Mounting Diagrams

Shelf layouts vary widely. Consider the most popular:

Linear method

This method is appropriate in the presence of a large area. Shelves are placed along one line.

Multi-level method

You can mount shelves at different levels. The number of levels can be variable. Here everything is limited to a free place.

Abstract method

The shelves are placed in a chaotic order. This way will perfectly fit in the style of Hi-tech or other modern direction.

Proper layout

Any construction requires a clear planning. This helps to speed up the process and eliminate major errors. Therefore, if you determine in advance the location of the shelves, then in these places it is possible to lay the foundation bars. In this case, the problem of how to fix shelves to plasterboard, will be solved very simply.

Important! Folding bars are best screwed on the dowels to the wall with screws. And the shelves can then be screwed with screws to the beams through the GKL.

We hang light shelves

If you pick up shelves of small size from light materials, it is possible to take advantage of such ideas.

Butterfly dowel or umbrella dowel

Small light shelves can be hung using special dowels. They are called a dowel-umbrella or a dowel-butterfly, and created specifically to fix various objects on the drywall. The principle of action of these dowels is simple: when screwed into the wall, its hat opens, forming a pattern, and takes most of the load on itself.

Important! When buying, note that the screw must be longer than the dowel for about 1-1.2 cm.

If you yourself doubt, in any store, a competent sales consultant will help you choose the appropriate fasteners, based on the approximate weight of the item attached to the GCR.

How the installation process looks like:

  1. In the wall at the right level, drill holes of the appropriate diameter.
  2. Dowels are inserted into these holes.
  3. Brackets or hooks are fastened to the screw, after which the shelf is hung up.

Dowel Drive

To hang a painting or other light object, you can use the Drivel dowel. Only here it is necessary to drill not only the GCR, but also the wall behind it. If the wall is flat enough, the sheets of plasterboard are glued onto it:

  • Attach the shelf to the wall and mark with a pencil the fixation points to the wall.
  • Drill holes with a depth of 85 mm at these points.
  • Develop them well so that the plug easily fits into them.

Important! The dowel must enter the entire depth of the hole.

  • Insert the dowels into the holes and hammer them to the stop.
  • Screw the first screw, set the shelf level.
  • When it is steady, tighten the second screw.

Important! The screw and dowel must enter the wall, and not remain in the adhesive layer. If the Drivka plug does not reach the wall, then the installation will be unreliable.

For light shelves, these simple manipulations will suffice. The main thing is to be attentive and accurate.

We hang heavy shelves

How to hang a heavy shelf on drywall? Here it is necessary to resort to fastening to the metal profile of the frame of the wall. To determine the location for drilling holes and not to damage the wall, experts recommend using a powerful magnet:

  1. After determining the location of the fasteners, drill the required number of holes at once in both the GKL and the metal profile.
  2. Insert in the holes dowels butterfly or dowels Driva.
  3. Insert screws into the dowels with the fasteners for the shelves.
  4. Clamp the structure so that the drywall can withstand pressure, and the mount can withstand the weight of the shelf.

Fastening with anchor bolts

Anchor bolts can withstand much greater weight, even very massive structures can be fixed in this way.

Important! Dismantling the shelf, fixed in this way will not be possible.

Procedure:

  1. Drill work holes in places where the shelf will be fastened.
  2. Make deep holes in the supporting wall.
  3. Install the anchor bolts in the holes made, clamp.

Important! Anchor bolts can be used as fixing parts themselves or they can be hung with additional brackets.

When working with plasterboard, the main thing is to carefully measure and select the consumables correctly. Otherwise, you risk ruining the appearance of the wall.
