There is no need to build a well or a well near a street toilet or cesspool - the reason is obvious. It is undesirable to drill a well in a place where there are many trees - their roots will simply drink the water.
If there are power line poles on your site, you cannot drill near them, this is fraught with a large fine. Finally, if your lot is near a graveyard, ditch the idea altogether. It will be sad to admit this, but the risk of infection is too great.

When to look for water on the site
Not every season is suitable for this purpose. Spring and autumn are excluded, because at this time the groundwater rises high.

Signs of an underground source
Show patience and observation. The search for water should be started by observing the site. There are phenomena that indirectly indicate the proximity of an underground source.
If animals move freely around your site, pay attention to their behavior. Dogs seek coolness and dig holes for lying in places where an underground source cools the soil. Horses tread on the place where there is a source under the ground, usually they kick with their hooves in a place where underground waters are close. But mice avoid such places and never settle nearby. There are no anthills there either.
Where trees grow well and have straight trunks, there are underground springs.
Methods of finding a place for drilling a well
After you have indirectly determined the likely location of the source, it's time to start more specific searches.
If you are going to dig a well, take a dozen ordinary three-liter cans. Dig them into the ground about 5 cm with the neck down and in the morning see which of the cans has the most condensation. Digging should be exactly in this place.
You can use ordinary polyethylene instead of cans. Cover the area with them and press along the edges with stones. The place for work will be determined by fogging and condensation.
Take them in your hands, press your elbows to your sides and spread the free ends to the sides. In the place where the waters are close, the ends of the wire will come closer to each other. Vines can also be used, but preparing them is time consuming.
