The choice of such furniture in stores is quite large, but the price is about the same, and it "bites", although it is completely unclear why. After all, in fact, this is just a bag of filling. There are no wheels, no frame or folding mechanism. So why is it so expensive? The answer is simple: because this is a trend, and you have to pay extra for it. But if the design is so simple, why not make this chair yourself?
From idea to trend: how the beanbag chair came about
The idea of creating a Bean-bag was born in 1968 in the heads of three Italian designers, and at first it was just an ordinary bag full of hay. Pietro and Teodoro Gatti and Cesare Paolini showed their idea to a large businessman, and he immediately invested a fortune in the production of new items. From that moment on, soft armchairs literally blew up the market and turned not just into popular furniture, but became a trendy part of designer interiors.
Required materials for the manufacture of a beanbag chair
To make a chair, you will need paper to transfer the pattern to. It is convenient if it is the so-called graph paper.
You will need two types of fabric. One is for the inner bag, the other is for the outer bag. The inner part can be sewn from sturdy cotton fabric, which is usually used for mattresses and bedclothes. The outer cover can be made of any furniture material: tapestry, artificial suede, flock, velor, chenille. Here, your choice should be based on the color scheme that matches your interior.
By footage - it all depends on the size of the chair. If we talk about the average version with a height of about 120 cm, then 250 cm of fabric of both types with a width of 150 cm will be required.
In order for the covers to be removed and washed if necessary, a zipper is required, so prepare 2 zippers approximately 50-80 cm long. Do not forget about strong threads that can withstand heavy loads.
An important component of upholstered furniture - filler. There are several options here - from the simplest to the exotic. For example, some people prefer water bean bags. But making a sealed cover yourself is not so easy, and in terms of weight, such a chair will be very impressive. Alternatively, a natural filler: hay or straw. Not a bad idea, but keep in mind that this is a very short-lived option that will need to be changed every six months. If you have access to materials such as buckwheat or rice husks, you can use them, but again, this will make the chair much heavier. A synthetic winterizer or cotton wool knocks down too quickly and loses its shape.
You will need about 300 liters of such a filler, the average cost of this volume is 600-1000 rubles.
An important point! When you are about to fill the chair, remove animals and small children from the room. The tiny foam balls are highly volatile and can be accidentally inhaled or swallowed.
