Oilcloth
Budget and short-lived material that can be used as a temporary option. Oilcloth has some advantages:
- easily attaches to the wall;
- does not absorb dirt and moisture;
- inexpensive;
- presented in different colors;
- has a small thickness, therefore does not reduce the space.
Wallpaper
At first glance, the idea of using wallpaper as a kitchen apron may seem bold and thoughtless. But there are several types of material that can even be used in the bathroom. For example, fiberglass. They do not absorb moisture and are not afraid of temperature changes. You can use other types of wallpaper that will protect transparent skins from external influences.
Slate paint
The original finish is a functional leveling plane. On it, you can make a drawing, write down a recipe, wishes to loved ones or a reminder of an urgent matter. You can make such a panel yourself. Cut out a suitable piece of moisture-resistant plywood and cover it with slate paint on the front side.
Plastic panels
Plastic panels are a versatile finishing material that can be attached to ceilings and walls with a frame or glue. This is a budget material that has good characteristics:
- plastic is more durable when compared to wallpaper or oilcloth;
- panels are not afraid of mechanical stress;
- they do not absorb moisture, grease and odors;
- easy to clean with ordinary soapy water.
Laminate
If you want a wooden apron, then choose a laminate. This flooring material can be easily attached to the wall. The wear-resistant face layer is protected from moisture. For reliability, you can grease the joints with wax, but initially, when attaching the panels, their most snug fit is provided.
Laminate is varied and can imitate wood of any shade and even very rare species. You can glue horizontally, vertically or herringbone.
Perforated panel
A panel with holes is not only an original way of decorating an apron in the kitchen, but also a good solution to the issue of storing utensils. Hooks in the holes can be used to fix roof rails or individual organizers, spice racks, towels and more.
Bricks
Decorative brick will organically fit into the interior, decorated in the following styles: Provence or country, loft, Scandinavian. The main thing is to choose a glossy material, and not a matte one with pores, into which dirt will penetrate. You can choose a practical ceramic tile in the form of bricks.
MDF
The MDF board serves as the basis for a perfectly flat, smooth kitchen backsplash. The panel is covered with a laminated protective layer. You can choose MDF with imitation of any natural material or photo printing. With this apron, you can emphasize the style of the interior.
Laminated wall panel
This is the same as an MDF panel, only the laminated layer is applied to the chipboard board. The difference in cost and moisture resistance. MDF is more durable. But due to the laminated coating, the chipboard is reliably protected from external influences - it does not deform during temperature changes.
Such aprons gained popularity due to the range, practicality and affordable cost of the material.
Mosaic
The mosaic apron looks stylish and elegant. It can be plain, in the form of geometric ornaments or art panels. For simplicity and faster installation, there is a mosaic on a mesh backing on the market. It is glued to the mortar, and then the joints are closed with putty. Mosaic can be combined with ordinary tiles, it can be used to decorate not only walls, but also furniture.
Wood
Natural wood panel can be made by yourself and then fixed on the wall. For this, wood circular cuts are suitable, which are laid in the formwork on the horizontal plane of the desktop, and then poured with transparent epoxy resin. When the resin hardens, the surface is sanded and polished.
You can also use old boards. If paint is preserved on them in places, there are defects from mechanical stress - this is only a plus. The boards are fixed on the wall as tightly as possible to each other and covered with a protective moisture-resistant transparent varnish.
