How to clean a washing machine filter at home

Most owners of washing machines know that they have filters that need to be periodically freed from dirt. But where they are and how to clean the filter of the washing machine, not all represent.

On a modern washing machine, two filters are usually installed - one( filling) on the water inlet, where the water inlet hose is screwed, and the second one( drain) - on the drain hose in front of the drain pump. These devices can be cleaned by yourself. It is not difficult and does not take much time.

How to clean the fill filter

It should be noted that this filter is not installed on all models. It is designed to clean water entering the machine from pieces of rust, grains of sand and other contaminants and is a metal mesh through which the supplied water passes. This device is located inside the nozzle of the washing machine, to which the filling hose is screwed, in front of the water supply valve. If you do not clean this filter, it will eventually clog and shut off the water supply.

This work is carried out in the following order:

  1. Unplug the machine from the mains( pull out the plug from the socket).
  2. Close the water tap( near the hose).
  3. Unscrew the hose( filler) from the nozzle on the back of the washing machine. The fastening nut turns anticlockwise. It is desirable to pre-spread a rag on the floor, since a small amount of water will merge from the hose. You have to be careful - there is a rubber seal inside the nut, which can fall out and get lost when the hose is disconnected.
  4. A strainer must be removed from the socket. To do this, the pliers must grasp the protruding plastic partition( they are located in the form of a cross) and, turning from side to side, with a twisting movement, carefully remove the plastic cylinder in which the mesh is fixed.
  5. Thoroughly clean the mesh from dirt. For this purpose, a conventional toothbrush, which is cleaned from both sides by a filter element under a stream of water, is very suitable.
  6. Directly in the hose, instead of laying, an additional mesh can be installed, it should also be removed and cleaned.
  7. Install the filler filter in place.
  8. Screw the hose into place, making sure that the rubber gasket is in place.
  9. Open the water tap and check for leaks at the connection point. If water flows, then tighten the fastening nut or replace the rubber gasket.

How often to clean the fill filter depends on the quality of the water supplied. The dirtier the water, the more often you have to remove and wash the reticulum.

Clean the drain filter

Another filter that needs to be cleaned regularly is a drain. It is located at the bottom of the washing machine, but access to it from different manufacturers is organized in different ways. So at Electrolux, Bosch, Ardo, Zanussi, he is behind a small, hinged, decorative hatch. The machines of the brand Samsung, Ariston, Kandy and Indesit - is hidden under the bottom plastic panel fixed on snaps. Such a panel can be removed with a wide flat screwdriver or knife, pushing them from the side into the slot and turning to a characteristic click.

Be careful when removing the panel for the first time. In some models of machines, the latches are opened by sliding the panel to the side, and in some models it is attached to pivots. Therefore, before removing the panel for the first time, it is advisable to review the manual.

It is necessary to prepare a container with low edges( tray, frying pan) for draining the water. In extreme cases, you can spread a large enough rag. In some models, there is a thin hose for drainage of water residues, which is closed by a plug-plug.

Clean the filter itself is not difficult:

  • Open the hatch or remove the trim panel.
  • If there is a drain hose, pull out the plug and drain the remaining water into the prepared container and close it with a stopper.
  • If the sink is not provided, then under the machine at the location of the filter we slip the container or spread the rag.
  • Unscrew the plug( anti-clockwise).In some models it is fixed with a bolt, which must first be unscrewed.
  • Remove the plug with the filter attached to it.
  • Clean it of foreign objects, pieces of scale and debris and rinse in water.
  • It is advisable to look inside the nozzle where the filter is inserted, lighting it with a flashlight. If there is dirt - carefully remove and remove it.
  • Screw the drain filter back into place.
  • Replace the trim panel or close the door.

As can be seen from the description, it is not difficult to clean the filter of the washing machine, and it will not take long. But if such a simple job is done regularly, at least once every six months, an irreplaceable assistant will work reliably for a long time.
