How to assemble the subwoofer box?

It is in this quality that energetic music charges with positive, and when you watch movies with excellent sound design and the picture seems more realistic, and you literally feel yourself in the very epicenter of events. But not necessarily for all this go to the cinema or go to a concert of your favorite artist, spending a lot of money. It is enough to improve the quality of acoustics at home. This article is about how to assemble a subwoofer box with your own hands. There is no special complexity in this work. Elementary skills of working with carpentry tools and a little patience are needed.

Where to start?

You need to approach the assembly of the box responsibly, since the quality of the assembly depends on the purity of the sound. Before you build a drawing and start making a box, decide on the speakers. For a subwoofer, the optimal option is the dynamics of imported production by 10-12 inches.

Classification

Here are the most popular designs of subwoofers:

1. Closed box. This is the simplest for design and execution option. The woofer is located inside a sealed housing made of wood. However, the efficiency of such a device is the lowest.
2. Bandpass 4 orders. The case of such an acoustic system is divided into separate chambers. One is for placing the speaker, the other for the air duct. The peculiarity of the acoustic system of this kind is in the possibility of limiting the frequencies reproduced by the diffuser.
3. Bandpass 6 of the order differs from the described system with one more camera and one more air duct. This is the most complex type of box, but its efficiency is the highest.
4. Bass reflex port. This subwoofer is equipped with a special tube, built into the casing. The tube exits the air. This provides an additional sound from the rear of the speaker. In terms of sound quality and performance complexity, this is an intermediate version between the bandpass and the closed box.

Is it possible to make a self-calculation of a complex acoustics system?

Of course, if you want to achieve optimal sound quality, the bandpass is preferable. But its creation is preceded by a large number of high-precision calculations. You can use for this purpose special software - WinlSD, which will help not only accurately calculate all the parameters of the system, but also give out its three-dimensional model. In addition, the program will calculate the dimensions of all parts.

Important! The drawback of the program is that using the software requires knowledge and skills, so an ordinary user is unlikely to be able to apply it. And for the correct calculation, certain characteristics of the dynamics are needed, which may not be known to you.

The optimal solution for a self-made box will be a bass reflex. It is uncomplicated in production, and the sound quality is quite decent.

Material requirements

The box must be made of strong and dense material with good sound insulation effect. Plywood in several layers or chipboard is ideal in this respect. In addition, it is inexpensive and easy-to-handle materials.

So, you need:

• Plywood multilayered thickness 30 mm.
• Self-tapping screws for wood work - 100 pcs, 50-55 mm.
• Material for noise insulation. Screwdriver or drill.
• Electric jigsaw.
• Glue PVA.
• "Liquid nails".
• Terminal block.
• Carpet( about 3.0 m).

We take as a basis the speaker in 12 inches:

• The optimum volume of the box for the speaker is 40-50 liters.
• The dimensions of the box are 700х450х260 mm.

How to make a subwoofer box - the procedure:

• The diameter of the 12-inch speaker is 30 cm. The first thing to do is cut the hole for the speaker.
• The smallest distance from the wall of the subwoofer to the center of the diffuser is 200 mm. Cut the hole with a jigsaw.
• The next step is cutting a hole for a bass reflex slot with parameters 350x50 mm.

Important! The slot can replace the duct-duct.

• Assemble the bass reflex slot and attach to the front panel of the speaker system.
• Lubricate the joints with "liquid nails" and secure with self-tapping screws.

Important! Twist the screws as tightly as possible. If left hollows, they can become a source of resonant vibrations, and the sound will be spoiled.

• After that, assemble the lateral parts of the box, having missed them with "liquid nails" and fixing them with self-tapping screws.
• On the rear wall, cut the hole for the terminal strip.
• Insert the speaker.

The most difficult part of the work is over.

Inner finish of the box:

• First of all, glue all joints with sealant or epoxy.
• Carefully cut out the soundproofing material and glue the walls from the inside.

Important! For this purpose PVA glue is quite suitable.

• Tighten the box from the outside with a carpet, including the bass reflex slot.

Important! You can use a furniture stapler or epoxy for this.

• After that, screw in the speaker.

The subwoofer is completely ready!

Finishing straight

The final stage of work is pulling wires from the speaker to the terminal board and connecting the amplifier.

Important! It is advisable to buy an amplifier, since it is quite difficult to manufacture it with your own hands.
