How to open a jar without a bottle opener with the help of improvised tools?

In a situation where you need to open a can of canned food or glass with household preparations( for example, in nature), and there are no openers, people start acting in the most unexpected ways. Unfortunately, most of the approaches used result in damage to the contents of the tank or even injuries. But practice shows that there are effective methods. And they are quite simple, accessible and easily implemented even in the most spartan conditions. The main thing is to act very carefully, so that even the tiniest particles of dirt, glass or metal are not mixed with the contents of the jar.

Methods of influence on cans

Contrary to popular belief, it is easiest to open a tin can. It does not need to try to flatten between two stones or heat in a fire( oven), hoping that the metal will become more malleable. It is better to use one of the following approaches:

  • Using a spoon. We install the container on a dense, stable surface, hold it with one hand, take a metal spoon on the other( plastic, aluminum, wood and other fragile materials do not fit). The tip of the rounded part of the spoon is placed as close to the edge as possible on each can. The spoon must be positioned so that its convex part is outside the can, rather than being deployed to its center. Clutching the instrument, we begin to move it back and forth, as if swinging. Continue until you can completely wipe the thin metal cover. Next, we move the spoon and repeat our actions, "sawing out" a new hole in the lid. So we continue to work until a line is formed that allows us to open the container.

  • With the help of the chief-knife. In this case, it is necessary to place the jar on a flat and stable surface approximately at the level of the belt. It is strictly forbidden to try to hold the container between your legs, so you can cut yourself severely. The knife blade must be heavy, otherwise it will not work. We take the tool for the part where the blade is attached to the handle, and the base of the blade( opposite the tip) is placed on the can, as close to the edge as possible. We begin to press on the device, trying to pierce the metal. After the hole is done, go to a new area, located as close to the first. So we work around the circumference of the lid until it can be opened.

Advice: Everyone knows that before you start to open the container, it must be thoroughly wiped with a slightly damp cloth for cleaning. Then it is recommended to treat the lid to dryness. If moisture remains on the metal surface, the tool may slip, resulting in injury.

  • Using a pocket knife. We take the knife in one hand, we place it vertically on the lid of the jar, with the second hand several times we hit on the hand with which we hold the handle. Too much we do not beat, we just need to make a hole. We make such holes along the circumference, placing them as close as possible to each other. After that, it remains only to pick up the lid with the tip of the knife and open the container.

  • Using a stone or a piece of concrete. The most primitive, but quite effective method. We choose a rough stone, press the jar to it from above, begin rubbing with a slight pressure, moving along the perimeter. We do this until the stone does not drop liquid from the tank, this will mean that the metal has been sufficiently worn. Immediately turn the product over, attach the lid with a knife or something sharp and try to open it. Given that the material will be thinned, this should not be a problem.

It is strictly forbidden to simply try to cut a can with a knife. It spoils its point, and the food will necessarily get metal chips. It is better to do exactly neat punctures. The approach will take a little longer, but it is more safe and practical.

How can I open banks with house preserves?

Banks with preserves under metal lids can also be opened if desired, even without the opener. Do not try to do it with your teeth or by piercing the material with a knife, it is better to adopt the following methods:

  • You can take the usual pliers and try to operate them on the principle of openers, but work carefully, so as not to damage the glass.
  • More convenient, fast and less risky way to open cans with elbow. We place the capacity on a table or other stable surface, it is good if someone keeps it, providing additional fixation. Further elbow sharply beat on the bank, trying to slightly bend the lid. Strongly to beat it is not necessary, the subject and so without problems will give in on influence. First it is necessary to beat the elbow on the surface to understand how to beat to get the minimum of unpleasant sensations.

  • There is another rather effective way, however, it requires accuracy and takes more time. Turn the container cover down and put it on the table. We take a knife with a sharp end and begin to unbend the lid from the glass, with one hand pressing on the jar. We work carefully, trying not to scratch the glass. We pass along the perimeter or at least half the circumference. Then gently turn the jar and remove the lid without resistance.

If, when trying to open a jar with one of the listed methods, the content will literally explode and splash out of the container, this will indicate that the product is overdue or corrupted. It is better not to eat it.
