The great Spanish painter Salvador Dali for all his life created more than one and a half thousand works, among which you can find true masterpieces of the direction of surrealism. But not only in the paintings this man is familiar to many fans of his work. He was a versatile creative personality who found himself as well as a sculptor, writer, director and actor. The greatest dream of the master of the brush was the creation of his own museum, which most resembled a theater, and he succeeded. Now in Figueres is his Museum-Theater, which stores many of the artist's works not only in the form of paintings, but also sculptures.

Anna Maria

Anna Maria ( 1924).This picture shows the younger sister Dali Anna. For a long time, the artist and his sister were very close, in many respects they were united by spiritual kinship. On the canvas the painter portrayed Anna as a true beauty. The friendship between brother and sister continued until Dali met on his life the Gala - Muse of his whole life. Jealousy of the sister to his chosen one destroyed all the related and friendly relations between Anna and El Salvador.

Memory permanence

" Memory permanence" or "Soft clocks"( 1931).This picture of the great surrealist is familiar to many. The work brought great fame to the painter. The canvas depicts several clock mechanisms displayed in a spreading form. In this picture, the painter moves away from the linear concept of time frames. Here you can see that the creation depicts the head and the artist himself, who is asleep. To create a masterpiece, a genius took only a couple of hours. Now this work is stored in the New York Museum of Modern Art.

Giraffe on fire

"Giraffe on fire" ( 1937).This canvas artist painted almost before sending to emigrate to the United States. This work clearly demonstrates the artist's struggle against the policy of his country. Salvador Dalí himself called himself an apolitical person. In this picture, the premonition of the painter of the imminent war is displayed. The main character of the canvas is directly the burning plan itself is in the background and actually symbolizes the premonition of military actions that will unfold in the near future in the state. In the foreground, the artist chose to portray two women, whose construction is supported by crutches. Thus the master of the pen expressed the human subconscious.

Face of the war

Face of the war ( 1940).This work appeared already at the moment when the surrealist already lived in the United States. On the canvas is seen the image of the head, which more closely resembles the skull, and around it there are snakes, seemingly making a hiss in the mouth and each of the eye sockets is still one skull, clearly reflecting the terrible essence of the war. Also on the canvas you can see the fingerprint of El Salvador. Now the picture is kept in the museum of Rotterdam.

Face May West

" Face May West" ( 1974).The work belongs to the late works of the painter and is executed in a comic style. The painting depicts the face of a famous American actress. The lips of the woman are made in the form of a red sofa, curtains served as hair, May's eyes are depicted in the form of two paintings, and the nose is a fireplace, on which the clock, representing the bridge of the nose, is located. The artist's work occupies the whole room, which is an illusion: from the far side the actress's face is clearly depicted, but it is only necessary to come closer, as soon as objects become clear, from which the creator "gathered" the face of West.

Great masturbator

"Great masturbator" ( 1929).One of the most famous paintings of the artist reflects his contradictory attitude towards the coition of a man and a woman. In childhood, Dali saw a book on his father's medicine, where photographs of the sex organs of people with sexually transmitted diseases of people were displayed. Since then, the young creator associated with sexual intercourse with the process of decay, which is clearly visible in the work. Later this case greatly influenced the artist, who for a long time was disgusted with sex. Until the end of Salvador Dali's life, the canvas belonged to his museum, after which he was moved to the Madrid Museum.

"Surrealistic composition" or "Meat of a festive chicken"( 1928).In this picture, many connoisseurs and admirers of surrealism note the influence of Yves Tanguy, for whom all the same manners of reflecting space and floating figures were characteristic. Currently, the composition is stored in the museum of the same name of the great surrealist painter, but under a completely different name - "Inagular Goose Skin".

Portrait of Luis Buñuel ( 1924).Being at the age of 25 young Dali painted a portrait of a man who had a huge impact on his later life. The young creator took part in several films by Bunuel, including the "Golden Age" and the "Andalusian dog".On the canvas of his friend the painter portrayed as a thoughtful and very serious man. It is not difficult to see that the picture itself is made in a gloomy tone, than the artist wanted to emphasize the look of Louis, filled with deep thoughts. For a long time the picture was owned directly by the person who is depicted in the portrait. Now the work is stored in the Center of the Arts of Queen Sofia, which is located in the Spanish capital.

Landscape near Figueras

"Landscape near Figueras" ( 1910).The painting refers to one of the early works of a famous artist, an adherent of the direction of surrealism. This canvas Dali created by being in childhood, at that time he was only 6 years old. The work is done with oil paints. In the picture, clearly visible traits of Impressionism - a popular at that time direction among the creative personalities. This kind of paintings in this direction the painter will create until the 1920s, after which he will move on to cubism and surrealism. Currently, this canvas is in the private collection of one of the admirers of Dali's creativity.

Atomic Ice ( 1949).At this time, the Spanish painter lived in California. The first sketches appeared 4 years before the complete completion of the picture. On the canvas, the master of the pen painted the ruler of Sparta and Zeus. In the work, all objects are depicted in zero gravity and do not touch each other, whence the first word in the name "atomic" appeared. Traditionally, Leda is depicted in a nude image in the form of the artist's wife - Gala. Zeus in the picture is presented in the form of a swan. In the background, you can contemplate the rocky coast of Costa Brava. Currently, the original is kept in the museum of Salvador Dali.
