If you think that firewood as fuel is no longer relevant, then do not rush to draw conclusions. Even if you are a resident of a metropolis, it is not a fact that you will not heat the stove. But what about the dacha, what about the bathhouse with the unique aroma of birch tar? Potbelly stoves have now become very popular, they are produced by different companies. And many owners of private houses, even if they have gas or electric heating, everything they also put such a stove as additional heating and just for the pleasure of watching the game fire. And you never know what life circumstances can make you think about what kind of wood is better to heat the stove.
What kind of wood gives more heat?
For those who use firewood as their main fuel, this issue is not always easy to solve. The fact is that a lot of firewood is needed to fully heat a house. And of course, you will buy the breeds that are most affordable. And this is mainly the wood that grows and is processed in the region.
But if you still have a choice, then here's how different firewood behaves in the oven:
- Hardwood firewood burns the longest. And conifers, due to the large amount of essential oils, quickly turn into ash.
- Birch logs are most often chosen for a bath. Birch burns for a very long time, longer than aspen, and gives a good heat. Plus the specific aroma of birch tar is a real sign of a Russian bath.
- Aspen gives almost no soot, and this is an excellent option for heating a house. Moreover, the steam generated by burning aspen logs is able to gradually remove the soot in the chimney. It makes the plaque crumble with every firebox. But the aspen takes a long time to heat up, so first you need to put other firewood in the firebox.
- Alder wood is the ideal fuel. There is no resin in them, which means there will be no soot and soot. Research by scientists has shown that when alder burns, it ennobles the air with substances that destroy harmful bacteria.
What is important in preparing firewood for a furnace
In addition to the type of wood, its preparation is also important. You understand that well-dried firewood burns better. They give off a lot of heat, but the combustion rate is also higher.
And here we come to the most important conclusion: how finely do you need to chop wood and do you need to chop them at all? If you don't trust other people's experience, do your own experiment. Take the same amount of chopped logs and round timber and watch how they burn and what result they give.
Chopped firewood, which will burn to ash in an hour and a half in the furnace, is twice as large as round timber in the same volume! A log of round timber in the firebox does not immediately turn into ash from firing, but remains for a long time in the form of coal, continuing to give off heat.
What do we get as a result? Round, non-chopped logs burn much longer, but ignite more slowly. So for lighting you need to use chips first, and then a little chipped.
