What is Penoplex
The word "penoplex" or "penoplex" is the trade name for extruded polystyrene. In Russia, in 1998, this material began to be produced by PENOPLEX, a major manufacturer of polymer-based building materials. Due to its thermal insulation characteristics and good manufacturability, this material quickly became very popular with builders. Its structure is a set of microscopic cells no more than 0.2 mm in size. The surface of the foam sheets is even and smooth. The material is absolutely non-toxic, environmentally friendly. The main property for which builders appreciate it is a very low coefficient of thermal conductivity. In addition, foam has good mechanical strength and very low water absorption. Its manufacturability is determined by its low weight and ease of machining - you can cut it with a clerical knife. And to the biological characteristics, it should be added that the material is anti-allergenic, and insects do not like it.
Builders use penoplex both in the construction of new houses and in the reconstruction of old ones. It has a very long service life.
Its disadvantages include the fact that it burns well. During production, special additives are introduced into the raw materials, which ensure self-extinguishing. But while this material is burning, it gives off puffs of black smoke.
Since the penoplex is impervious to steam, the installation site must be well ventilated. Otherwise, condensation will form on it, and fungi and mold will start in dampness.
Penoplex is afraid of exposure to ultraviolet radiation. So it cannot be used without cover for cladding houses outside. But he tolerates contacts with various chemistry well. He is not afraid of antiseptics, tolerates bitumen-based mixtures well, does not react to cement. But the poor adhesion of the surface layer makes it difficult to stick something to the foam sheets.
Penoplex does not tolerate contact with any solvent. It should be protected from proximity to paint thinners, solvents such as acetone and ethyl acetate, coal tar (and any of its derivatives).
Penoplex sheets produced by the industry have a width of 600 mm, a length of 1200 mm or 2400 mm, a thickness of 40, 60, 80 mm. There are also non-standard sizes on sale. Penoplex prices are usually low, but there are sellers who violate the customs of the market.
Penoplex markings
The penoplex produced by the industry has different markings, according to which the builder chooses the most suitable brand for his purposes.
Grade 31 has not the highest strength characteristics. These are not recommended for use when heavy loads are possible. It is used for insulating containers and pipelines.
Grade 31C also indicates a low mechanical strength of the material. It is usually used to insulate walls inside a home. Such a penoplex has a higher level of flammability.
Penoplex with marking 45 is used for insulating the runways of gas fields and for arranging road surfaces. Penoplex of this brand is ideal for finishing floors in industrial premises.
Material marked 45C has practically the same parameters as penoplex 45. It is quite reliable and durable. They usually insulate the walls in industrial premises.
Marking 75 belongs to special materials that have a density of 40-53 kg / m3. They are most often used in the construction of runways at airfields.
