How to make the color of the skin gouache?

By mixing different shades you can make skin color perfectly accurate. But first you need to determine what kind of shade you need, as for their reconstruction, this or that combination of colors will be used.

Create a light skin tone:

  • Selection of colors - you will have to try to mix a few colors. In order to get a light skin color, prepare such colors:
    1. White;
    2. Blue;
    3. Yellow;
    4. Red.
  • Mixing colors - paints are most conveniently mixed on a special palette. If you do not have one, then any other working surface will do. For example, you can use a piece of cardboard. Put on the palette for a drop of each color.
  • Mix all the colors in equal amounts - use the brush to mix the same amount of blue, yellow and red paint. Mixing the three basic colors, you will get a dark base - it should be so, because then you will lighten it.

Important! Before dipping the brush into the paint with a different color, be sure to rinse it in a container of water.

  • Compare shades - before your eyes there should be a shade that you would like to copy. Compare the result you have with the shade that you want to achieve. If you are painting with a photo, then consider its lighting.
  • Lightening - if you need a lighter shade, add yellow and white paint. Using a yellow paint to get a warmer shade, and thanks to a white - a cooler.

Important! Paint should be added a little, and before adding more, mix the colors well.

  • Add the red paint. If you already have a light enough tone, but still do not have a realistic shade, you can add a little red paint, but not too much, unless you want to get a shade of skin burned in the sun.
  • Correct color - again compare the color you got with the one that you want to get. If the shade turned out too light, then you can add a little blue and red. But, if the shade is too different from the desired one, it is better to mix everything again.

Important! You can mix several color options, and then choose the more suitable for your picture.

Create an average shade of the skin:

  • Selection of colors of the desired shades. In order to make the skin color of medium shade, you should mix more colors. Prepare the following colors:
    1. Yellow;
    2. Red;
    3. White;
    4. Blue;
    5. Natural sienna;
    6. Burnt Umber.
  • Mixing colors - similar to the previous instructions, apply a drop of paint of each color to the palette.
  • Mix yellow and red. By connecting the same amount of yellow and red paint, you will get an orange color.
  • Add a blue color. Gradually add blue paint to the base. If you want a darker shade, then try adding a little black ink.
  • Compare the shades. Before you should be the shade of skin that you need to copy. Compare the basis you got with the shade that you want to get.
  • Add the red paint - red mix a little bit. It is better to add the paint gradually and gradually, so you do not have to rework the base.
  • Create a darker olive color - mix an equal amount of natural sienna and burnt umber. You should get a dark concentrated mixture. Little by little, add the right amount of this mixture to the base.

Important! This mixture can be used instead of blue. To get a darker olive color, you should add a little yellow, mixed with green.

  • Mix until you get the right tone - connect the colors until you have at least five shades that you will be satisfied with. Of these, you can choose one that suits you.

Important! It is better to use one or two shades.

Create darker skin tones:

  • Selecting colors of the right colors - to achieve a truly realistic shade, then you will have to experiment a little. Prepare the following colors:
    1. Natural sienna;
    2. Burnt Umber;
    3. Red;
    4. Yellow;
    5. Purple.
  • Mixing colors - all on the same principle as before.
  • Making the basis. Mix an equal amount of natural sienna and burnt umber. Also mix an equal amount of yellow and red paint. Then add a little yellow-red mixture to the first mixture.
  • Compare the shades - compare the basis you got with the shade that you need to achieve.
  • Create a dark skin tone. To make skin color more saturated and dark, you can add a little purple. This is suitable for dark purple, which can be obtained by mixing dark gray or black with purple. You need to mix until you get the perfect one.

Important! Black paint can spoil the base, so it should be introduced very little and gradually. Try mixing until you reach the ideal result.

  • Create a lighter shade. In order to lighten the color too slightly, instead of purple, use a burnt umber. Take a small amount of the mixture and see what color you will get.
  • Lighten the shade. This can be achieved by adding an orange color to the base. Orange will lighten the base well, giving it a natural look, while white can dilute too much.
  • If you have achieved the desired result, proceed to drawing.

Important! To add shadows and chiaroscuro, use a gray color. When painting the skin, it is desirable to use several shades at once.
