How does a gas oven work and how does it work?
The main element of a gas oven is a gas burner, which serves as a source of thermal energy used to heat the interior of the frying chamber. To control the operation of the oven, there is a control panel on its body, through which the modes of use and cooking are set. In the inner space of the working chamber there are shelves on which various structural elements are installed (grate, baking sheet, brazier). For better control over the cooking process, the working chamber is equipped with a backlight. In addition, it can accommodate other equipment (fan, spit, grill, etc.), expanding the capabilities of such equipment.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION!
Gas ovens can operate on natural and liquefied gas, while using bottled gas requires a special reducer and washers installed in front of the gas burner.
The gas burner is located at the bottom of the frying chamber, and after gas is supplied to it, it is ignited. This can be done automatically or manually, using an electric discharge or an open flame (match). The supply of a certain amount of gas to the burner and thus the temperature control in the working chamber is carried out using the regulators located on the control panel. A thermometer can be placed on the oven door to show the temperatures inside the chamber, or this function performs a temperature sensor that displays its current values on the display located on the control panel.
Gas ovens differ in:
- constructions: built-in and separately installed;
- type of control: dependent and without a hob;
- availability of additional options: convection and grill, skewer and timer, self-cleaning functions.
Oven with microwave function.In a special publication of our portal, we will tell you in detail about ovens with a microwave function. You will learn the structure and principle of operation of freestanding and built-in ovens with a microwave function, the main characteristics and advice of the Tehno.guru editorial staff on choosing an oven with a microwave.
Pros and cons of using
Any equipment, regardless of its purpose and types of use, has its own advantages and disadvantages, which determine its relevance and popularity. A gas oven is no exception in this regard, and here are the pros and cons of using it:
Advantages:
- gas as a source of energy is much cheaper than electricity, moreover, it is an autonomous type of fuel (in liquefied form);
- ease of use;
- the cooking process is fast, due to the instant heating of the working chamber;
- availability of additional options expands the capabilities of the device.
Flaws:
- limited functionality compared to electrical counterparts;
- inability to use in automatic mode;
- the complexity of connecting to the gas pipeline, for the implementation of which it is necessary to call the appropriate specialists;
- limited choice of models due to low customer demand caused by other disadvantages of use, and as a result - a small number of design styles.
Technical parameters and design design
As mentioned above, gas ovens differ in design, type of control and additional functions, as well as operating modes and style of decoration.
Design features
Depending on the design, ovens are built-in and separately installed. Built-in models assume placement in the body of kitchen furniture, and separately installed ones can be located on the surface of a countertop or other horizontal plane.
In addition, models of gas ovens differ in geometric dimensions and are narrow, wide and standard types.
Control types
Ovens for this indicator are classified as dependent and independent, and this is how it is expressed:
- in dependent models? the control panel of the working chamber is combined with the control panel of the hob, therefore this type of device is only of built-in design;
- for independent devices? the control panel is located on the outside of the oven, usually above the door.
To control the work, rotary knobs are used that change the amount of gas supplied to the burner. The thermometer informs about the temperature in the working chamber, and if there is an LCD display, in addition, information is displayed on the progress of other operations.
Basic modes of operation
The main operating modes of gas ovens, which are available to almost all models of such equipment, include:
- bottom heating - when only the lower burner is working and the heat in the working chamber rises from the bottom up;
- bottom and top heating - available on models equipped with an upper burner or combination devices, when an electric heating element is placed in the upper part of the working chamber;
- convection mode - allows you to ensure uniform heating in the inner space of the oven chamber, it is carried out by using a fan built into the body of the device;
- grill - the mode is available if there is an upper burner, it allows you to expand the capabilities of the oven.
Additional operating modes and available options
Additional modes of operation and options available for individual models include:
- spit - a device by means of which it is possible to achieve uniform frying of the prepared dish, which is carried out by rotating it around its axis using an electric motor;
- electric ignition;
- telescopic guides - facilitate the laying and unloading of dishes with cooked food;
- timer - allows you to control the cooking process;
- self-cleaning functions the inner space of the working chamber.
Cleaning the inner walls of the oven is achieved by using:
- pyrolytic method - when food and oil residues are burned to complete destruction;
- catalytic - achieved by using a special coating applied to the metal surface, used in the manufacture of the inner walls of the working chamber, accelerating the oxidation process and breakdown of fat.
Color and design
Although the choice of gas ovens is somewhat smaller than their electrical counterparts, nevertheless, manufacturers similar technology are trying to win their consumer and produce gas ovens of various colors and options registration. The most common colors are white, black and gray, but you can find models in gold, red and other versions. The design can also be different: from retro and Provence style to high-tech, which is achieved by using glass and metal, as well as individual decorative elements and special accessories.
