Without plumbing in the house we would not have that comfortable life to which we are already so accustomed. But in the course of operation, various problems persist. For example, many people have had to deal with the installation or replacement of a drain-overflow device for a bath. The purpose of the plum is to regulate the water level in the bath and to prevent its transfusion as the structure is filled. The theme of today's article: replacing the plum in the bathroom with your own hands.

The drainage system

The drainage system in the bathroom( also called the piping) is a set of pipes that are necessary to drain water from the bath and prevent its transfusion. The liquid is drained through a tube located at the bottom of the bath. Sometimes the tube is a continuation of the siphon. Another tube, which protects against overflow, is in the upper part of the bath. There are many varieties of these systems on the market, differing in design and material of manufacture. Consider how to make a sink in the bathroom yourself.

Installation of the simplest drain

First set the bath and fix it so that it does not move.

Important! If the bath is installed on the factory legs, the drain can be installed without any difficulties. If it is installed on bricks, then for a successful installation of the drainage system, its distance from the floor should be 15 cm.

After installation of the bathtub, you can proceed to install the drain. The drain can be pivoted or monolithic. The procedure is as follows:

  1. There is a hole in the bottom of the bathtub, to which the drain is connected. The drain neck has 2 parts. At the bottom there is an internal thread, and at the top there is an external thread. Inside there is a grille that prevents large objects from entering the siphon.
  2. The installation of the drain on the bath starts at the bottom of the siphon. The kit includes 2 gaskets made of rubber( for sealing they can be smeared with silicone). One of them is laid at the top and brought to the drain hole from the bottom of the bath.
  3. Screw the top of the siphon into the bottom and clamp, using the pliers.
  4. The overflow flare is fixed in the same way as the flare siphon. Put the gasket on the overflow neck, insert it into the upper hole from the outside of the bath. After that, put on the second gasket, tighten the construction with the cover-nut.
  5. Now - connection of the bath to the sewer system with your own hands. Connect the drainage pipe to the sewage system. The connection technology can be different, depending on which pipes are installed: plastic or cast iron.
  6. Regardless of the type of the overflow hose, rubber gaskets in the form of cones are installed on it. In this case, it is important to check not only the presence of seals, but also their position( a thin part should be located from the edge).
  7. When connecting parts of the siphon with an overflow hose, make sure that the gaskets are not skewed.
  8. Close the drain plug with a stopper. After taking a little water in the bath, make sure there are no leaks. If it's okay, then fill the bathtub until the water starts pouring out through the overflow hole. Now pull out the cork and again make sure that everything is dry.
  9. If leaks are found, then press the connection. If it continues to leak, then disassemble the connection and check how well the gaskets are positioned. After removing the siphon from the bath, lubricate the seals with a synthetic sealant, and reconnect.

Important! When choosing a sink for a bath, pay attention to the volume of the water seal. If the volume is small, it threatens to disrupt the hydraulic seal, and the sewage air with an unpleasant odor penetrates into the room. It is necessary to choose a siphon, containing not less than 0.3-0.4 liters of water.

Features of semi-automatic overflow-overflow

The main feature of this system is not only the availability of controls and materials, but also a variety of designs. Plastic, copper, chrome-plated steel or brass can be used to make the drain. The most durable plums are brass. Italian products are especially appreciated. Such products are expensive, but they serve for a long time.

There are automatic and semi-automatic systems. It is inadvisable to give preference to a fully automatic machine because:

  • The control of the semi-automatic system can be carried out from the outside, and automatic - by pressing the drain button, regardless of what kind of water in the bathroom, cold or hot.
  • The automatic system is more capricious and less repairable.

Important! When choosing a semi-automatic system, you should pay attention to where the cable connecting the overflow and drainage mechanisms is located: inside or outside the overflow hose. In the latter case, the model looks more aesthetically pleasing, but if the cable breaks, then the whole system must be replaced.

Siluminous structures should not be bought: they are too brittle and can break even when mounted.

The installation of a drain and overflow in the bathroom is not particularly difficult and can easily be performed even by a domestic craftsman. Replacing the sink in the bathroom with your own hands is a very real thing. It is important only to choose the right model and follow the sequence of actions.
