Coffee table made of cement

Recently, interior elements made of concrete have become increasingly popular. Despite all the attractiveness and openness to the decor, these products also have disadvantages:

  • The first disadvantage is a very expensive process, in which a large amount of concrete is cast.
  • For small side tables, the second negative aspect is the too heavy weight of the furniture. Moving such a product from one place to another is very inconvenient and requires physical strength.

Tools and materials

You can make a good solid piece of furniture with your own hands. To do this, the following materials and tools should be prepared:

  • heat-insulating plate made of foam plastic, the size of which is 120x240x2.5 cm;
  • cement of the brand HENRY 549 FeatherFinish - 1 package;
  • aerosol adhesive grade 3M Super 77- 1 can;
  • hacksaw;
  • sandpaper, in which the grain size is from 36 to 120;
  • different size of spatula;
  • paint;
  • knife universal;
  • grinding device;
  • respirator 3.

How to make a coffee table from cement with your own hands:

  • Make a marking and cut out the foam sheet. From a piece with a size of 120x240 cm, we cut out 18 squares with a size of 40x40 cm. When folding them onto each other we get a parallelepiped, the size of which is 40x40x45 cm.
  • We paste the cut out details. For this purpose, we use the 3M Super 77 aerosol adhesive.

Important! This procedure is desirable to perform not indoors, but in the open space. Also, without fail, you need to protect your hands with gloves and put on a shirt with long sleeves.

  • On the first side of the square, we apply an even layer of glue.
  • The side of the second square is treated in the same way with glue.
  • After 15 seconds we connect the squares - the edges must be joined.
  • We repeat this procedure with all the squares.
  • We combine the square blanks into a single whole. After 30 minutes we proceed to the next stage.
  • To the received parallelepiped we give the outlines of the future table. At first the construction has a coarse angular shape. By smoothing all the irregularities, we give the product the desired appearance. We start with the use of sandpaper 36 grit, we gradually turn to the use of nazhdachki, which has a smaller grain size.
  • When the surface of the future coffee table is polished, it needs to be cemented. When applying the first layer, all voids of the foam plastic form are filled. Within 20 minutes you need to quickly smooth out any irregularities.
  • When the first layer is dry, apply the next layer. The number of layers applied determines how smooth and smooth the surface of the table will be.

Important! When preparing cement mortar, it is necessary to follow the manufacturer's instructions, do not prepare a large amount of mortar. Since such a procedure is dirty, the floor in the workshop must be covered with old newspapers or an oilcloth.

  • After application and drying of the last layer, we finally grind the surface of the table.

Important! When performing the grinding procedure, it is necessary to use a mask that protects the lungs from cement dust.

The made coffee table turns out strong and strong, weighs thus no more than kg.

Coffee table made of wooden slats

A stylish table made of wooden slats perfectly fits in any interior. Consider the relevant materials and tools needed to create such a piece of furniture.

Materials:

  • 3 boards with dimensions of 2.5x7.5 cm;
  • 1 board size which is 2.5 × 10 cm;
  • 8 boards with dimensions of 2.5x5 cm;
  • 4 mounting elements for table legs;
  • 4 elements of conical legs, the length of which is 35-45 cm and depends on the required value of the height of the table;
  • 8 screws, the length of which is 3.5 cm;
  • 32 wood screws with a flat head, the length of which is 3 cm;
  • 16 nails for finishing, the length of which is 3.75 cm;
  • special glue Gorilla Glue;
  • putty applied to wooden surfaces;
  • paint and primer for wood;
  • sandpaper 120 and 220 grain.

Tools

  • Hacksaw;
  • special drills and drill;
  • kit Kreg, the use of which allows drilling blind holes at an angle;
  • 2 long and 2 short clamps;
  • measuring tape;
  • hammer;
  • grinding machine.

How to make a coffee table from wooden slats with your own hands:

  • Applying a hacksaw, at an angle of 45 degrees, reduce the ends of two boards that have a size of 2.5 × 7.5 cm.
  • From bars measuring 2.5 × 5 cm,the length of which corresponds to the inner length of billets with dimensions of 2.5 × 7.5 cm.
  • We place workpieces with dimensions of 2.5 × 5 cm in the middle, and blanks with dimensions of 2.5 × 7.5 cm along the edges. In this case, the ends of the inner rails must be aligned.
  • We measure the distance between the extreme bars with a size of 2.5 × 7.5 cm, cut out two parts of the workpiece with the resulting value from the board with a length of 2.5 × 10 cm. They are for our table the bottom supports.
  • We fix them with the help of screwed screws, which are screwed into each longitudinal rail.
  • Using the Kreg Jig kit, drill 2 pocket holes at the end of each transverse support. Such holes will be used to connect the outer bars with parts having a size of 2.5 × 7.5 cm.

Important! It is difficult to specifically recommend the distance from the edge on which the conductor Kreg Jig is installed. The length of the screws used, the exact thickness of the board and other factors affect this value. To guess with the size, you can pre-practice with unnecessary pruning boards.

  • We place the details of blanks with a size of 2.5x7.5 cm along the edges of our design.
  • Check the ends so that they are on the same level. Fix them with clamps.

Important! If softwood is used to make a coffee table with its own hands, for example, pine, then unnecessary trimming of the boards must be placed under the clamp supports so that no clots remain on the wood when clamping.

  • Firmly and securely fasten the end bars with a size of 2.5x7.5 cm to the base of the table.
  • We screw screws with a length of 3.5 cm into secret pocket holes, which were previously drilled at the end of each transverse support.
  • To determine the length of the ends of the table we measure the width of the made base, cut out the desired size from the workpiece 2.5 × 7.5 cm.

Important! It is recommended to leave a small margin along the length in order to achieve the ideal size during the grinding process during the fit.

  • Apply a small amount of special glue Gorilla Glue to the ends of all racks, which must first be moistened with water.
  • We install the end boards on the right place.

Important! To prevent premature failure of the structure, it must be tightened with a belt for the time of glue drying. For a reliable effect, you can additionally fix the ends of several carnations, serving for decoration.

  • To eliminate all unevennesses at the joints, we grind the surface of the table with sandpaper, which has a grain size of 120.
  • It is necessary to fill all gaps and grooves in the seams with filler. Hats from nails must necessarily be drowned in wood.
  • After drying putty again we grind the surface with sandpaper only 220 grit.
  • We paint a hand-made coffee table. But before painting, it is advisable to treat the surface once again with a 400 grit sandpaper.
  • Special plates are installed on the lower supports of the crossbars. When fixing the mounting plates, it is necessary to watch that the holes do not fall into the places of already screwed screws. The distance from the fixing point to the edge of the base of the table is about 2.5 cm.
  • We screw the legs of the coffee table into the legs themselves.

  2. Use a chisel to clean the stump from the bark.
  3. Using a grinder and sandpaper of medium grain, grind the surface, remove the remains of the bark and smooth out the sharp corners.
  4. Wipe the wood with a damp rag.
  5. We primer the surface of the wood.
  6. We paint our product with white acrylic paint.
  7. We paste a strip of paint tape. The upper edge of the side surface, along which adhesive tape is glued, marks the location of the first row of nails.
  8. Hammer the decorative nails of the first row. Next, proceed to the design of the "line" of the second row, and then decorate the carnations in the third row. Pasted paint tape serves as a guide for keeping distance from carnations to the top edge. Approximately 140-150 decorative nails are needed.

Important! In order not to damage the floor covering when moving the table around the apartment, the bottom surface of the stump is desirable to be covered with furniture felt material.
